Whew! Finished Fallout 2 (major spoilers)

You can get to be a Made Man of about several families, maybe all of them if you try.
And I found EMP grenades quite effective, though by then it was as easy to gauss rifle the sensors.
What bugs me are the miniguns and rocket launchers in the endgame which eiter do you like 3 damage or critical hit you for 150-odd. Most irritating, especially when your foolish allies get themselves fragged.

My wife went to Vorbarr Sultana and all I got was this bloody shopping bag.
My brother once got max damage with the Vindicator, it was obscene. And the Avenger minigun is actually the most powerful (theoretically) in the game, but various other factors keep the Vindicator at the top.
I was always a sniper-type person myself. I usually loaded up with the Gauss Rifle (with the Sniper Rifle and the Scoped Hunting Rifle before that) and let loose.

The Vindicator is the best?
Hmmm I always put the Bozar higher because I could get more damge from it...but the Vindicator is certainly up there.
And the Gauss is just plain nasty...I had that and the Electro Rifle(which you can get in San Fran from the Brotherhood).

My character used a .223 pistol most of the game, it was my favorite weapon in this game. When I made it to San Francisco I picked up a Gauss Rifle which served me well cause I had the Finese perk.
Cody and Vic had shotguns of various types throughout the game. One pet peeve I had with the game was you sorta had to buy weapons blind. I would like to know for sure it if it s a Big Weapon, Small Weapon, damage , etc.
You can get a hint by checking the ammo but that does not always help.
I thought the enchanced weapons was a nice touch to add variability to the game. I ended up giving Cody an extended magazine Desert Eagle as his backup weapon to the HK-CAWS.

It's actually just a pure RPG just with modern after a nuclear war elements.anarchistbunny wrote:I"ve never heard of this game. What is it? It sounds like a FPS or something, but with RPG elements.
You can usually find it with Fallout 1 for $10...more then worth it.

Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 are RPG game with turn based combat. They both take place in a post-holocaust world which was laid waste in 2077 by nuclear war.anarchistbunny wrote:I"ve never heard of this game. What is it? It sounds like a FPS or something, but with RPG elements.
If you like RPG's with an open ended, mostly non-linear game play, then you should pick up a copy. I think you can still find Fallout/Fallout 2 packages for cheap.
The first game takes place about 80 years after the war and you are a decendent of people who took shelter in vaults and have been isolated from the outside world. These two games are some of the most highly rated RPG's ever. They both use the same engine so to speak so there are few technical differences between the two. The 2nd seems a bit more polished and has fewer bugs, but the first has one of the best intros Ive ever seen.

I loved the 0.223 pistol, but the Gauss Pistol was even better.TrailerParkJawa wrote:My character used a .223 pistol most of the game, it was my favorite weapon in this game. When I made it to San Francisco I picked up a Gauss Rifle which served me well cause I had the Finese perk.
It was usually fairly obvious. Rifles, shotguns, submachineguns and pistols were small arms, plasma, pulse and laser weapons were energy, miniguns, rocket launchers and machine guns were big arms.Cody and Vic had shotguns of various types throughout the game. Eh, I wasn't a big fan of the DE.I thought the enchanced weapons was a nice touch to add variability to the game. I ended up giving Cody an extended magazine Desert Eagle as his backup weapon to the HK-CAWS.

Heck the opening is indicatie of that(I mean look at the house of what the GECK produces )lukexcom wrote:It must be mentioned that although the games take place in the future, the theme in both of them is like the 1950's. Though I must admit the opening music for Fallout 2 was nice(Louis Armstrong "A Kiss to go on")...forgot who did Fallout 1.

Yes, that needs to be fixed in Fallout 3, so that you can literally be2000AD wrote:What i found really annoying was when some random member of someone i'd pissed off would attack me, but then bring in everyone else nearby! I wiped out half of San Fran before i managed to get away!

It's like Six String Samurai. After nuclear war, civilization basically ends so there isn't much cultural advancement beyond the 1950s. Except for some select areas. Things like the FN-FAL and P90 were obvious, but what about the damage? You had to buy a weapon to find out what it did. I just wish damage was listed by a simple query or something.phongn wrote: It was usually fairly obvious. Some of the others left me scratching my head, like WTF is a Panchor Jackhammer? At first I thought it was a melee weapon.

And uh, isn't the Pancor Jackhammer a real gun?

I always liked using the special edition Red Ryder BB Gun (unlike the standard BB Gun, this one was only available in one of those special encounter areas) for eye shots. Fallout once used the GURPS System. GURPS Atomic Horror is a Fallouttypeneoolong wrote: It's like Six String Samurai. setting in the 1950s.
It was planned to use the GURPS system, however the negotiations failed or something and so we have the glorious SPECIAL system. All skills, stats, and perks. Ah the glory.
Fallout 3 is coming. Van Buren IS Fallout 3. Black Isle will rise again after the shittyness that was Lionheart (they didn't develop Lionheart, thank god, but they did publish it).

That gun is one of the most powerful in the game IIRC. I just couldn't find any ammo for it so i saved it for big encounters. You can also get the special addition from the dwarf gun trader outside NCR.TrailerParkJawa wrote:Heheh, just another cool pop-culture reference. There's one nastier(the Alien Gun).2000AD wrote: That gun is one of the most powerful in the game IIRC. I just couldn't find any ammo for it so i saved it for big encounters. You can also get the special addition from the dwarf gun trader outside NCR.
The benefit though of the Special Edition Red Ryder BB is that it has a consistent damage. One that is never lower(course never higher)
