I am in my Thirties.

I remember not only commandlines, I remember games without GRAPHICS!!!

I still have a number of Infocom products, The whole code for the Original Startrek game, with the starbased the lettter "K" klingons, The letter "R" romulons, the "E" enterprise etc, in TEXT.
Nothing fired the imagination more than say Suspended, Planetfall, or Zork. If you know where to look you can play Zork, it is public domain now IIRC. I remember being so fascinated with Planetfall. It was the first game I ever actually finished even if I did need one big hint to get past one part.

Hey, I loved Space Invaders when it was new, but I dropped it like a flaming turd when Galaxian came out, which in turn got dropped like a handful of earwigs when the moving-background top-down shooters came out, etc.

This is a bit like making Car&Driver review a Ford Model T. It's a piece of history, but it's also a shitty car.

Yup, and I would challenge anyone to come up with something that cheap, with technology of that time.

Remember the one game where it had elements of Space Invaders and Galaxian? Gorf? I forget the name.

Gyruss was pretty cool. Oooh, dont forget Red Baron.

If these were little kids rather than pre-adolescents, this would be forgivable. But these kids should know better.

Oh, I don't know. It depends on your mood and personality. I have Pong on my PC, and I play it frequently when I'm in the mood for something more than solitaire but less involved than Doom or BG.

Note, this is the full retro version, little square ball, nice little poingy sounds and buzzes, not some updated flashy version.

They should have had them review Missile Command... now there's a great game. Fuck, if I found that sitting in an arcade, I'd probably blow a couple of dollars on it before I got bored with it.

The Ford Model-T is not a shitty car - they were much more reliable than most modern cars and certainly much easier to repair. (the latter can certainly not be argued!)

In fact, my grandmother used to know somebody who owned a Ford T for all their life and never had it through any major restaurations or refits. I actually think Ford switched to lower-quality materials on the Model A because if they made cars which were as durable as the Model-T, people would only need new cars each 30 years.

Now - the ZAZ 966... that's what I call a shitty car!

Doubtful, the older ones were born in 1990, and any memories about videogames before they were 6 years old is probably just a blur, about pressing some buttons randomly and their older brothers making fun of them, so their earliest clear memories are probably set around 1996, the year the N64 was launched, and the PS was already one year old.

Their earliest memories are about the last SNES games (DKC sequels and things like that) and the then new 3d console games.

The youngest ones probably never understood what a SNES was until much later, even if they got to play with it.

And then, all this is assuming their parents let them play since they were very young(likely).

Just deal with it, we are all old farts when it comes to VG's and the young ones just don't know what we're talking about, if it's older than a SNES, it's ancient history.

It's not satire. The only satire EGM publishes regularly in their magazine is Seanbaby's reviews of bad games and Hsu & Chan.

I'm 14, and my parents won't let me touch Halo, let alone a GTA game.

For some reason store people will demand ID from me (i'm 19 and have a facial hair for crying out load) for an 18 video/DVD, but not even make any attempt at all when a kid buys the GTA:VC. The only time i've seen a store person not sell a kid a game was when some little creep tried to buy the Getaway, which was a media circus and had massive 18 signs stuck on it. The kid just went and got his parents to buy it for him.

I think there's a halflife mod that went for that..i don't remember the name or what became of it though.

GAHHH

Yes, I feel old too, YB. This is just sad, hearing these kids talking about the games we knew and loved/hated.

They should have made the little brats play Frogger... or SuperBomber... or Breakout.
