On one of my machines I run an SB Live off an old VIA-chipset board with no problems. But I know that others have had lots of problems on similar hardware. You should probably get a Hercules, just to be safe.

There's lots of different soundcard makers. Frankly, I think Creative sucks, and I speak from personal experience. Their soundcards eat up too much in the way of system resources, the output stages are crap so they have poor S/N ratios, and their drivers are awful. The Audigy is an overpriced mess with delusions of grandeur.

Heh I am beginning to see that. Yeah, if the tech support cannot solve this problem, I am returning it for something else.

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is a great card at a good price. Much better than anything that shithouse Creative has ever put out.

The consensus on the ArsTechnica boards is that the Audigy 2 is a solid product for everyday use.

The Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is nice, but getting dated. TB is also getting out of the sound card market, so future support may not be so good.

Hercules makes good sound cards, but they sometimes have driver issues (abliet less than Creative Labs does).

The M-Audio Revolution is a great card, but pricier than most and uses more CPU utilization.
