Woah, careful there dude. I will ring the Xbox's praises as much as any Xbox fanboy, but saying that the Xbox has the best RPG's, when it only has two true RPG's to its name currently (KOTOR and Morrowind, neither truly exclusive) is pushing it. The PS2 has literally dozens of quality RPG's, and although several of the Xbox RPG's slated to ship this year look good, we can't really count on them to be Squenix-killers. And when it comes down to it, that is really the problem with the Xbox's RPG supply--almost all of the great console RPG's come from precicely ONE developer: Square-Enix.constantine wrote: Basically, the X-Box is going to have the best RPGs (which it already does in KOTOR and Morrowind), FPSs and the only 3D fighting game so far. As far as True Fantasy, who knows?

Once Square-Enix gets in gear and starts working as one entity instead of two, that will most certainly be true (I've been disappointed in the company's first joint projects, not quite up to the quality I am used to for either company prior to their merger). However, they most certainly have a place in the future regardless since no other company is close to the position they hold (for instance: Bethesda Software, the makers of the Elder Scrolls series (Daggerfall and Morrowind), produce too few AAA RPG titles and don't turn out those titles quickly enough to be considered).
As for my answer to the topic question, it's the games.

Heretic! You should be burned at the stake. The arcade imports on the SNES were far better than they were on the Genesis. Case and point would be the Street Fighter series, the Mortal Kombat series. And there was The Lost Vikings that was on both systems. I am sure there are more but those are comming off the top of my head...but there was an article in Electronic Gaming Monthly a long time ago comparing the exact same games on both systems. The graphics and sound were far superior on the SNES than the Genesis. The only edge the Genesis had was a faster processor: 7.6MHz VS 3.58MHz on the SNES. Considering that the SNES won back enough market share during the waning months of the 16-bit console wars to be dead even with Sega, the faster processor speed was not much of a factor. And in my opinion this only helped Genesis have an edge in sport games which I could give a rats ass about.Cal Wright wrote: The 16 Bit wars really showed how it goes. Both systems have thier pros and cons. The Genesis was a heavy packer, but Nintendo had some games that people just gravitated too. (I grew up with a Genesis FYI). There's games I always remember that were said to be better on the SNES then the Genesis. Now I've gone back and tried some of these games, and really find that the Genesis really did have the edge.

i only really have a couple of problems with the x-box.
1. not enough console exclusive titles to it. sure, it has alot of popular titles, but most of them can be found on the other systems that are out there. it doesn't really have that many it can claim as its own. console-only titles are what make or breaks a system. Look at what Mario, Zelda & Metroid did for Nintendo. take a look at the latest batch of FF games for the Playstation, or games like .Hack//Sign.
2. . . .well, shit. i forgot what my second point was. oh well, maybe it'll come back to me later.

You missed what I said. That I 'personally' went out for games and found this to NOT be true. In fact, it was sports games that had the most hype showing the SNES was better than the Genesis. Which was utterly false. Not to mention, that Sega had it's own sports titles and they blew away anything EA or anyone else was doing to begin with.Imperium² wrote:
