The placement of ports is determined randomly at the beginning of the round. Players can't do anything to control them beyond trading with them, which over a long period of time increases their strength. Ports cannot be created or destroyed during the round; they can only become stronger or weaker. They all start out at level 5, with the level increasing as people trade with them more. When they get raided, they lose levels, similar to when a player is killed.

Although ports can't be controlled, planets can be. Like ports, planets are placed at the start of the round and cannot be created or destroyed. The difference between them and ports is that planets are owned by specific people, who control exactly what the defenses of the planet are and are able to take the profit the planet generates. You can take control of a planet by raiding it, although that's probably not a good idea by yourself. If you can get some more people though, I think there's a planet in 10 or 11k that's relatively weak.

AOLers were exploiting tdzk so the admins temporarily banned all AOLers.

No, they're not. I know because the ports in say, Nexus, have been in the same location since i started playing. The ports in new systems might be randomly determined when they're created but ports in old systems aren't (atleast i'm pretty sure they're not).

Get something other than aol or wait till they find a solution to the AOLers exploiting tdzk and allow them to play. DuhEr.

Coincidentally, 9324 was a station in both v2.2 and v2.3. A different station in 2.3 than 2.2, but still a station. This is probably confusing you. Last round there was a 3-port string 5 sectors above 9234, which isn't present right now. In a round before that, a station was at 9339. All of the systems are randomized at the beginning of a round, it's part of the reset procedure.
