Is an X-COM remake that doesn't suck too much to ask for?

Realtime in Apoc was fun for laying down 'sweet jesus that should be unconstitutional' fields of fire with 36 people with twin devastator cannons. 8)

Grrr, I had completely forgotten about that. No wonder I had started a game for the first time in Superhuman, and after the initial Alien Retaliation on day 2, the game got so much mellower :(

While nearly a completely different game in so many ways, Apocalypse was fucking sweet. I mean, in how many real-time combat games your troops can see the incoming projectiles and bullet-dodge them.

that's a technology demo showing the geoscape; not the full game :D
It IS? I knew it was an alpha, but I'd imagined more features had been implemented. My bad :)

Aaah, fond memories of clearing out a UFO by setting 36 guys in front of the door, one rank prone, the next kneeling, the next standing, the next flying, with some guys off to the side, all with dual devastators, and just push play and wait. Doors open. purple light blazes, and something dies. Megaspawns died before they finished roaring at me. So beautiful...

To me, Apoc was in many ways the best of the XCOM OT. Leaving alone the improvement in graphics, I liked the variety of environments that were present. XCOM had basically one populated outdoors grid, three unpopulated ones which basically differed in color (oh and the forest one had vegetation), one city grid and alien bases. TftD at least added the ship maps but compensated for that with ugly equipment designs (Elite Soldiers do NOT wear yellow!!!) and the near-unkillable Lobster Men. Apoc had several indoor sets, several mixed, and several outdoor sets PLUS the admittedly pretty genenric UFO crash sites, AND the alien dimensions. I also liked the variety and customizability of vehicles (not that I ever used road ones), and the fact that human technology did NOT become obsolete as the game progressed.
Great-not only have you people gtten me hooked on XCOM again, but now I'll propably spend a futile afternoon trying to get Apoc to work on XP again

Does Apoc work on DOSBOX if not XP?

Best equipment for X-Com:EU. Flying suits, Heavy plasma and alien grenades. The H Plasma was insane. Huge accuracy, large clip and horrendously deadly. Too bad they nerfed the sonics and Guass in the next game.

I think it worked just fine on XP last time I played it (it's the DOS version).

A mod for crimsonland would be much, much better.
