Modern CPUs are RISC/CISC hybrids. I'm betting you couldn't even tell me the difference between RISC and CISC, why a RISC architecture may be faster in some cases or what advantages CISC has.

PPC970. I said nothing about a processor using the PPC ISA in general.
Ah, forget it then, I misunderstood.
I was asking an honest question here, not being sarcastic. You don't have to respond with insults.
I was giving you an honest answer. The vast majority of your posts in anything remotely resembling cross-platform contention smack of mindless fanboyism. You don't bother learning and continuously repeat the same tired old babble.
Perhaps you haven't noticed but I've been trying to be less fanboyish after one of our previous convos on the subject.

In this case, it was a combo of misunderstanding your post and believing everything I read. Fanboyism and just being naive are different things ;)

I understand the difference between CISC and RISC very well, but as I said earlier, ignore I said that. I was typing in a hurry rather than really thinking about it- you're right, modern processors are more of a hybrid. Just forget any comments about RISC and CISC processors I said in this thread.

<- Is working on a neat improvment for asynchronus adders for his 6.374 project, and will go on endlessly about it if asked.

And this states that IBM chips will be in Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo next-gen consoles:

Well, sorta. Sony is using their Cell processor, which they're co-producing with IBM (they also want Cell in a trillion other things, too, so watch out). So technically it's true, but they're not all using the same processor.

As for my favorite architecture... whichever one allows me to do the things that I like to do on my computer, fast and relatively inexpensive. That pretty much limits things to x86.

As for specific chip architectures, I admire Via's "I Think I Can" attitude, but there'll always be a special place in my heart for the P4-C... too bad the Prescottwas such a blunder, huh?

Asynchorous computing is quite neat :D
