Lack of weapons? I went pirate once and the Missouri blasted the crap out of me.

As would any fighter a couple levels above yours. When you hit battleships during the story, they're minorly threatening unless present in enormous numbers, and very non-durable. When you run into them non-story, they're weaker'n sandpaper (especially if it's after you finish the story) but indestructible. Annoying.

Thats what Freespace got right, unlike most space sims, Cap Ships are demons, to be feared, not used.

Ah, well. One can overlook these things when you consider the game as a whole. Or an online dogfight that spilled into the neutron star system.

Getting splattered across the front of a Sathanas as it went into subspace?

As for the cap ships being unshielded...I have no clue. They were in StarLancer, so maybe it's to balance the game.
Starlancer also had common place fighter cloaking devices. But in Freelancer they were an incredible new technology. So it seems a lot of technology was lost during the exodus to Sirius,
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Alliance also had cloaking technology. The Shroud stealth fighter which becomes available later in the game is equipped with a cloaking device. Also Hades torpedo bombers have cloaking devices.

Gamma: Hey, where's our fighter cover.

Me: Why don't you just cloak dumbass?

Gamma: What!?!? You mean actually do work? No! Now get over here and destroy these fighters!

That is an excellent idea. I would quickly flood it with Sgt Johnson quotes, though.

I would fill it with Alpha 2.

I think we'd need to put in separate sections for Johnson and the Grunts.

My guess is the Alliance did not originaly have cloaking devices. The Alliance cloak was developed it in response to the Basilisk. I think the Alliance being new in the cloak technology field failed to properly cloak a big bomber like the Hades.

Starlancer, while not the hottest of games, had some AWESOME CG sequences, and by FAR one of the best capital-ship-destruction effects I've seen in a long time. The plot, sadly, was a long string of Deus Ex Machinas.

And, of course, everyone dies after the colony ships leave when the Nomads show up and make the Sun go nova.
