It makes some amount of sense after you play through the game.
Please tell me there's not another Naked Raiden moment.

Fortunately not. It's [Massive Spoilers] Major Zero names Naked Snake because his job is to go in almost completely without weapons and no backup. Snake refers to the Boss, who has a scar on her abdomen in the shape of a snake from giving birth during combat at Normandy (it's a long story). At the end of the game, Naked Snake is given a new codename, "Big Boss" to reflect the fact that he is now even more trusted than the Joy was when she was with the Americans and the Philosophers.

The Metal Gear Series has got to be my favourite video game series ever. I'll admit that Kojimi does have some cringeworthy moments in the cutscenes when he gets too preachy, but the gameplay is probably the most interesting and engaging that I've played in a videogame. And for MGS3, you can't get better than the "Indiana Jones and the last Crusade" type motorcycle chase near the end.

Snake Versus Monkey redeemed the game in my eyes. Play that mode just to see Snake's dance at the end of a stage.

The Gamecube remake of MGS: Twin Snakes is still the most awesome MGS game out at the moment. I'll have to play MGS3 to see if I change my mind.

They should remake all the Metal Gear games ...

Ironically, a remade MG would be ridiculously cool - instead of overwritten, cringeworthy half hour phone conversations, you get 'BIG BOSS HERE. INFILTRATE THE BASE. BIG BOSS OUT.' which is a massive improvement. And dogs.

MGS1 is WAY too short, and there aren't any bits that are very long that I enjoyed: what I mean is that every cool bit is separated from the others by lame mines/stupid enemies/radiation etc. The water effects were FUCKING COOL, though.

I felt the somewhat OTT direction of MGS: TT overshadowed some of the improvements such as graphics. There were other niggles like the lack of a decent soundtrack (the original was great and the lack of thr Enclosure theme is simply unredeemable, they could at least have got HGW to do it like MGS2).

Anyway, I liked it, but feel the original will always be the best (even if that first meeting with Ocelot rocked my world despite not having the same music playing!).
