I've never had one die completely. I've had to reinstall Winblows a few times because it's gone BSoD on me and refused to reboot, but the only hardware failure I've ever had was a defective CD drive. A wire wasn't properly insulated and fried the drive. Under warranty, luckily, so it was replaced for free.
