Re: EVE-Online Dominion, who wishes to play?
I read a very interesting report on a website that, for the life of me, I cannot remember at this time. It had a message by Kartoon on it detailing how he had been planning the disbandment of Goonswarm for months prior to his quitting the game, and only the IT invasion of Delve had really stopped him from doing that earlier than he did. Something about how seeing his arch enemies beat their heads on TCUs in sov warfare made him giddy.
Anyway, he redirected all of Goonswarm's assets to the holding corp, voted it the executor, booted every last one of Goonswarm's corporations barring the holding corp and one other, destroyed most (if not all) of the alliance's capital ships, collected the insurance money and likewise deposited that in the holding corp's wallet, and then stole several trillion more in assets and locked it up permanently in the holding corp. He stated that he left enough money in the corporate wallet to pay for alliance dues for several years or until the game stops running.
Then, just to spite IT, he dumped Goonfleet into an alliance called "Band of Brothers," and likewise locked that in with several years worth of alliance dues so that SirMolle and his group could never have their old name back ever. Goons, meanwhile, have left Goonfleet en masse for Goonwaffe, so who knows what will come of that.

Is there some meaning to that name, or is it just to break formatting on the EVE-O forums?

It's probably the result of SOLO DRAKBAN being deemed the only trustworthy goon given that he's the webmaster and has handled large sums of not internet money during the server donation drive(s) without incident. The fact that it breaks things is just a plus.
Re: EVE-Online Dominion, who wishes to play?
I'm getting a Dragonlance deja vu here with a "evil will always turn on itself" vibe.
To elaborate an alliance whose modus operandi is grief people for giggles is probably enevitably degenerate to grief themselves in a race to see who can out grief the others the most.
Kartoon has won that contest for all time now it seems until someone disbands Solar or something.

Well, I got a subscription. Right now I'm just running level 1 missions in a destroyer. I don't have enough money to do anything else, and none of the Corps will take me because I only have 600,000 SPs.
Name's Dratheos in game. If someone has an old Minmatar cruiser they don't want anymore, I'd be happy to take it.

Re: EVE-Online Dominion, who wishes to play?
Because of this thread, and also because STO started to bore me during beta but I still wanted spaceships, I've also started playing EVE. Right now I'm flying level 2 missions in a Thorax and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it all.
I haven't been to 0.0 yet and all PVP I've seen was me being popped while exploring scanning sites in low sec But I found a nice, small corp in a moderately sized alliance that does 0.0 roams quite often, and there's plans of getting a foot in and trying to hold some territory. So if you see a Gallente boat piloted by one Magne Charle, please don't focus him right away

EVE is a terrible single-player game. Even ostensibly solo activities like mining and mission running are vastly improved when you have a friend along with you. If nothing else, you can bullshit over Ventrillo while you pop rats (and of course, if someone comes to fuck with you, it's a lot better to have a friend along).

I think my best times were in 0.0 in a Stealth Bomber, waiting in a system for a red industrial ship (read: cargo transport) to come into system. Kinda like hunting, it takes patience...much patience...

Bombers are hilariously fun. Slightly skill intensive to use right, and they require some very specific tactics to use as a group, but it's hilarious the sort of shenanigans you can pull with them. Go look up The Initiative's bomber raid on Morsus Mihi a few months back. They lost something like two or three bombers for less than 90mil ISK and killed around 55 exhumers and a bunch of industrials for around 8.5-9bil ISK.

Yeah, gives you a good excuse to train Cyno Theory 5. Black Ops pilots will love you for it.

I've GOT to join a corp for this very reason; I've been having fun running hard trade routes to make cash while I wait for my skills to progress somewhere past 'preschooler', but I can't count the number of times I wish I had backup.RedImperator wrote:EVE is a terrible single-player game. Re: EVE-Online Dominion, who wishes to play?
I remember doing 20+ jumps (and many, many pitstops because it had too little cap to make long warps in one time) in my manticore to harass some mining ops: 2 haulers, 3 miners and 3 fast cruiser and a destroyer escort. It was a constant game of cat and mouse, with me shooting a few volleys at a soft target, escorts punch their MWD towards my direction, me hitting cloak and slowly moving to another firing position, hoping they don't detect me. Rince & repeat. I never quite managed to blow up someone (usually had them in structure before they managed to warp away) but it was a fun Das Boot experience.Steven Snyder wrote:I think my best times were in 0.0 in a Stealth Bomber, waiting in a system for a red industrial ship (read: cargo transport) to come into system. I know SB's have changed a lot since then, but still havn't tried out those bombs yet.

Re: EVE-Online Dominion, who wishes to play?
It is true, getting in that kill requires a lot of things being on your side. Nothing worse than being just a hair out of Warp Disruptor range and seeing them zip off...
There was this time where I was watching a small red gatecamp deep in enemy territory. Viola, an industrial pops up, a Mammoth as I recall and starts to warp to the exit gate, the undefended exit gate.
I follow and decloak/jump just a second after he leaves system.
On the other side there he is, sitting 8km away aligning to the station.
LOCK - DISRUPTED - TORPS AWAY!
The gatecamp caught wind of this and jumped into system just in time to watch their hauler buddy expode and me warp away to a Safespot. Laughing my head off I did the only thing I could think of, I cloaked up, warped back to the gate and blew up his wreck before they could get the loot off.
Looking over the killmail...the irony of the situation is that the hauler had a cloak on it, he could well have survived had he cloaked up as soon as he saw me in local.

Just having a scout makes a huge difference. I've got a frigate fitted with a cloaking device I use to scout for people hauling shit into or out of nullsec; saved some people a little bit of trouble with it.Lagmonster wrote:I've GOT to join a corp for this very reason; I've been having fun running hard trade routes to make cash while I wait for my skills to progress somewhere past 'preschooler', but I can't count the number of times I wish I had backup.RedImperator wrote:EVE is a terrible single-player game. Re: EVE-Online Dominion, who wishes to play?
I've been exceptionally lucky; Due to the fact that as a noob, I have no skills and no cash, I haul payloads in a poorly-fitted Sigil through terrible areas of space just to make decent profits. So I tend to look for traffic mules - lucrative targets travelling on obvious flight paths through bad regions. Letting them jump a second or two ahead of me has saved my ass more than once, since often campers have their attention focussed on the unlucky guy ahead of me, giving me the chance to slip off.RedImperator wrote:Just having a scout makes a huge difference. How do I change my clone's location? I go to a medical office, but the only locations available are republic school one in minmatar space. Despite the fact that I'm in a lowsec corporation. Is there some setting I need to change?
Re: EVE-Online Dominion, who wishes to play?
And in other news Fountain is finally secured by BLAST and the region divided up between IT and BLAST constellationwise. But the Providence war nothing much seems to be happening, I'm expecting -A- to either crush CVA or get CVA to surrender back to the status quo of them and the rest of EVE using CVA as the village bicycle for pvp training.

Re: EVE-Online Dominion, who wishes to play?
CVA's initial strategy was "Let's not defend our space and hope they get bored." There are some fifty odd stations in Providence.
Unfortunately for CVA their pet alliances have continued to demonstrate their complete inability to hold space by dropping sovereignty all over the place, thus allowing -A- and UNITY to bypass the station reinforcement timers.
There has actually been constant fighting in Catch and Providence because of Sylph and Aegis Militia dropping their sovereignty.
Any war in Providence will be a slow, drawn out struggle. It won't be over in some highly publicised single engagement.

Really? The eve influence map and dotlan don't seem to be showing activity.
