"The basic throw is this motion, when one applies the full impulse of bionics you can imbed these into building materials, but demonstarting that would be a waste."

"Now commisar, let's go to the Guard's Barracks and I'll show you how I retinely put the fear of the Emporer into the Novices dormatories for years."

Hethor rolled his shoulders as he stepped into the duelling circle. He had completed his warm up, but it was old habit. The practice sword was heavy in his hand. He waited as Jolan lumbered foreward into the practice ring.

The inquisitor's power armour was slate grey with brass trim. The Aquilla and Inquisition symbol were prominetly displayed. It was a nice looking harness, all told, but it did not move with Jolan's grace.

Hethor lunged foreward. Jolan parried, barely, and then pushed foreward, pushing Hethor back. Jolan advanced with a series of swift, powerful swings. Hethor backed away and tried to circle around.

No luck. Jolan's footwork was still good. The big veteran smiled, showing restored teeth. This was going to be a challenge.

Hethor had fought stronger opponents before, but those had all been orks. Jolan's skill and reaction time were still there, no matter how hindered he was by the armour. But he didn't have speed or reach.

Hethor feinted towards Jolan's head with a downward swing. The inquistor raised his blade to parry and Hethor turned the move into a stab at Jolan's chest. The inquisitor slapped the sword away with his forearm and brough his own blade down. Hethor just barely got out of the way.

The inquistor followed up with a lunge that Hethor beat aside. Several powerful diagonal strikes followed, brutal blows that were hard to deflect. Jolan drove the veteran towards the wall.

Hethor leaped to the side, but Jolan pivoted and lashed out with a downward swing. The veteran slipped inside and rammed. Hethor's own armour took most of the shock. The powered armour added considerable mass to the equation, but not enough to prevent Hethor from knocking him over.

Gix's reflexes were still good. The inquisitor's hand closed on Hethor's arm, dragging Hethor down with him. Gix's other hand dropped the sword and went for Hethor's throat.

Hethor blocked with his arm, but Gix just pushed it aside as he rolled astride the veteran. The inquistor's knee landed on Hethor's bicep, pinning it to the deck. Hethor bucked, trying to dislodge Jolan, but the armoured inquisitor was too massive. Jolan's hand closed around his throat.

Hethor lay still as Gix got up. The inquisitor unfastened his helmet and offered his hand to his friend. Hethor took it and pulled himself to his feet. "So," said the big man, "that's how badly you gotta stack the odds in your favor before you can beat me."

Gix laughed. "I'll take any win over Hethor D'eckor hand to hand that I can get."

A thought occured to Nathan and he acted on it.He slid in behind the couple as they went to the barracks level. He moved as he once did a ghost among people, only a slight mental nudge to make them forget or even not notice he was there. He needed to keep up that training at least.

Sword work would also be needed he was getting a tad rusty with a blade.

"As we say amoung Witchhunters and Inquistionares, there is no innocence, only degrees of guilt. the sight of a commisar, inquistor, atrbitres, or sister repenta reminds them of their guilt, sends fear into them, and their bodies betray them. Only three kinds of people show no fear. The Insane, the Damned, and the Blank. Care must be taken with those."
entering the barracks the pair watched as the troops scrambled into position, they had of course be alerted to their approch, but still a few furitive glances, quickly uncovered the hidden credits and various dice and cards. picking up a pair of dice Sister Celeste rubbed them with her organic hand. walking over to one of the guardsmen she spoke matter of factly. "These are yours correct." the guardsman shoock violently trying to deny it. tossing the dice into the air she caught them with her bionic hand, the plasticine powder sifted to the floor. "If you had been smart you would have shaved them slightly instead of using wieghts, sloopy, also you are an idiot for denying it."

Commisar I believe the rest of the unit can dispense a fitting punishment for our cheater. "You!" celeste pointed to a perfect soldier, "Shall come with us, I want to know something." the crowd parted as a pair of swordsmen grabbed the calm unfortunate away.

He could sense... something, a presence in their vicinity. Behind them. They were being shadowed by someone who wished to remain unseen.

now with the new guardsman in tow,

"you notice commisar that this young man has no fear of you, me or your swordmen? You do recall what I said about people who don't have any sense of fear?"

"Now with the young girls I only can recall a handfull of them that never showed any sense of fear. Several became the most terrifying Repenta or Eversors, Now Commisar what do you wish to do with this abberation?"

"He's not a blank," Prius said with assurance. He stared into the soldier's eyes.

Which are you? Daemon or saint? Fearless or corrupted?

'now you see the problem I have always had with those that know no fear. It took me over a decade to decide not to kill Lillith"

Staring into the other man's eyes were like looking into a mirror. Soulless, cold, challenging. It sparked a primal response... he wanted to break this man, to prove himself superior.

Such thoughts were unworthy, though, as they were not in the line of duty. He stared for a moment longer, before looking back at Celeste.

"Your opinion?" he asked simply.

"seperate him, give him a field promotion, but watch him. The fearless take time to determine the depth and intent. An efficiant sociopath makes a good shocktrooper, or enforcer, but a poor foot soldier, and time is a luxuary we do not have in this campaign. however now that you know how to find other fearless ones, you can use that."

Celeste gave a half smile, "like I said before, it took me over a decade of watching Lillith, I had my suspisions about her she she was five, by the time she was eight I had made her responsible for all of the girls in her dorm, I continued to watch her, and didn't make up my mind until after I saw her under the care of the Medceia."

"We sent her into a world where we expected some cultist activity, we found Fulgrim's traitorus followers."

He nodded, though in his mind he'd already consigned the man to death. Better safe than sorry, no question marks in a command- there were a dozen different justifications in the basic mindset of a commissar for dealing with such people.

It was nothing personal.

He continued following Celeste, listening avidly.

Varian prowled the corridors of the massive star-fort restlessly. His mind had been ill at ease since the warp storm on the passage. His things were stowed in the cabin he had commandeered aboard the massive battelship and he simply waited, anxious.

Emperor alone knows what warp-spawned abominations await us. What manner of madness? What face of heresy?

The young Inquistor wandered more, lost to a silent meditation. As it was he was unaware that he was catching up with the party lead by the Sister of Battle, his mind was a thousand kilometers away.

And the presence of another entered his senses. Not the follower, he still hadn't localized that one, just the general vicinity. But Varian's aura was clear, distinct, pure.

Sharp like a power blade, that one. He glanced back and noticed that the inquisitor seemed to be... lost in thought.

It still surprised him, how polite these inquisitors were. He had always envisioned them as being harsh, aloof dispensers of the Emperor's justice, not...

Well, so normal in manner and behavior. Although he had seen the steel in them, in Nathan and Gix, Adivan and Pater. Perhaps it was facade, one that his work did not call for. That made sense.

"No bother, Inquisitor," he said. "May I introduce Sister Celeste of the Adeptus Sororitas?"

"Indeed I would. It would be my honor to see this men before they go and fight in the name of our beloved God-Emperor."

And not for the first time Varian reflected on the irony that no one recalled the Emperor's name anymore.

Celeste's vox beeped. She tapped her earpiece and held a brief subvocalized conversation.

"The Lord General wishes to speak to me," she said after a moment, bowing to the two of them. "Stand with the Emperor, inquisitor, commissar. We will meet again before the battle."

"Emperor be with you, Sister Superior," Prius said. He looked at Varian. "If you'll come this way, inquisitor." He gestured toward the next troop bay.

"Indeed Commisar, indeed." Varian tried to put on his best face but things still rose to trouble his mind.
