Jolan Gix strode towards the near bridge breach, plasma pistol in one hand, force rod in the other. Severa and Hethor followed in his wake, their activated refractor fields glimmering in the half light. Severa had gathered a squad of hellgun armed naval security stormtroopers. Gix hoped it would be enough. He doubted it would be.

--------------------------------------------

Dravek the Scourge lead his squad towards the Sword's flight decks. His Terminator armour made him immune to the puny weapons of these pathetic humans. Soon they would fall and he would take this ship as a prize. It would be a fitting victory and would please the Warmaster greatly. But he had best hurry. Kazegor was already on board and there was no telling how many he had already killed.

Their hunger was boundless, and they could sense the bright presence of Jolan and Lena like beacons in the darkness.

Kill. Kill. KILL.

Armsmen assembled to protect the bridge, and were swept aside in a storm of flame and bolter shells, barely delaying them.

One obstacle remained, the heavily armored main accessway to the bridge. Designed to protect against both boarders and mutinies, it thrummed with the impacts, and then began to heat up, visible hot spots forming as the paint began to sizzle away...

Severa's auspex's indicated the boarders were just ahead, by the blast door access to the bridge. A few hand motions prepared his squad, with hellguns jacked to full power and krak grenades loaded into underbarrel launchers. Gix hoped his armour could withstand the hell he was about to walk into. He turned on his conversion field and charged foreward.

The metal began to slag, first in hot spots, then in growing sections as it began to sag down. The first lascanon blast punched through in a shower of slag and sparks to strike the wall behind them, joined after a moment by three others punching through the air. Unaimed, but quite deadly for anyone caught in their path...

"Varian, Talstrem- Ristani, suggest we rendezvous and coordinate our efforts." the message came of Varian's comm bead loud and clear.

"Roger, I'll proceed to your position."

Prius spread his men out in a defensive position. Next thing he would have to confiscate for the Sword was a good tech priest, seeing as how they were fighting so many battles aboard ship. He acknowledged Varian's reply with a double click on the vox and hunkered down to wait.

The Sword did not question the sudden stoppage of motion. They could tell by Prius' demeanor that something big was happening. Commissar Ristani seemed to have a talent for finding such events and inserting himself into the middle of them.

"Men," Prius said as calmly as if he were discussing the weather. "It is time to gird your souls with prayer to the Emperor almighty."

Okay, perhaps this was a sign that things really were bad. The troops glanced at each other, but for the most part masked any hints of nervousness.

"In all things I stand with the Emperor," he recited quietly. "And in all things he stands with me, for there is no greater power in all of existance than the God-Emperor, and against His wrath, nothing can stand. Let all the daemons of the warp shudder at the mention of His name, and let all the xenos of the galaxy bow before His might."

The Sword troopers began reciting the prayer along with him. Good. They were quite likely all going to die, but as always if their sacrifice brought about the death of the enemy, it was worthy.

Kazegor strode toward the Sword. They were between him and the tasty soul he scented earlier. But there was another sweet morsel here. If the body he was in had been organic, he would have drooled. Instead he stomped toward the Swords position.

They had taken cover, for what little good that would do them. Kazegor's adamantium frame was armoured with thick plates of steel and ceramite. Las blasts began to potmark his armour. The daemon raised his assault cannon and began to kill.

-------------------------------------------------------

The capital ships had completed their passes and the Sword of Glory and the Retribution had begun to turn as the Strike Cruisers and the Battle Barge plowed towards the vulnerable transports. But the small ships were not content to let the battle be decided by their larger brethern.

Spite drifted out of the line of battle as a viscious battle was being fought for control of the ship. The Crone closed, reinforcing her boarding parties. But the Swords had not yet struck their blow.

Malice took the the heavily armed frigates' wrath. Poniard and Viscious batteries tore through her void shields in violent flare of energy release at point blank range. Each frigate opened up one of Malice's sides, at about mid way along the hull. The fire ate through the ship almost to its spine. The Malice was still moving foreward under acceleration and the stress proved too much for her ravaged frame. The raider broke in half, venting gas and crew into the void as she died.

Prius said one thing along the vox- "Remember your duty," and with that the Sword opened up.

They had been given a wide latitude in choice of weaponry, and by turns Kazegor was assailed by hellgun, plasma, and as he closed in, flamer and and melta.

To little avail, as nothing seemed to slow this behemoth down. Prius gritted his teeth. Varian and Nathan were not going to arrive in time, and it would be upon him to confront this beast alone. Seemingly with every motion Kazegor killed or maimed another one of his soldiers, proceeding toward his position.

He lowered himself behind cover. Looking at the nearest Swordsmen, he gave a terse order. "Cover me."

With that, he took a deep breath and with a prayer to the Emperor, he entered the mental battlefield, to engage this monstrosity with will and faith.

Gix's force charged into the midst of the Warp-Spawned monstrosities. Caught by surprise, they were focused on shooting up the blast door for the bridge and responded too slowly to the assault. One in particular was badly wounded by the concentrated spray of hellgun fire as they turned to respond to the new threat. Their ever-shifting, malignant forms began manifesting close combat weaponry...

Kazegor's armour was so much slag. Plasma and melta blasts had vaporized holes through it. His adamantium frame was still intact, as was most of the power transmition systems, but the Sword's shots were taking their toll. Kazegor was sweeping the area in front of him while the autoloader fed more ammo to his stormbolter.

Then he shuddered. A golden light flashed through the warp, striking him. The spike plunged into him riping into his soul. It was laced with the abominable taste of devotion to the Denier, the Corpse-God of the unchanged. Kazegor staggered back, in pain. From the high powered speaking horn that served as his voice, came an incoherent blast of rage/noise. For a moment, the hail of metal from his weapons stopped.

From everywhere and nowhere Prius' voice commanded his troops. "Strike, in the name of the Emperor!"

He had unleashed his power like this but twice before. Once in the hands of the foul PsyKing, and once under the guidance of Jolan Gix. But never before had he released himself by his own will and guidance. The treacherous currents of the warp threatened to puncture his control, voices whispering to him. Telling him that Kazegor was his ally, that Chaos held the true answers.

The hexagrammatic ward glowed brightly on his chest, radiating excess warp energy from the assaults. Were it not for all the residue and noise of battle, those around him would be able to hear and smell his flesh as it sizzled where it touched the ward.

As Gix's people closed to engage the Obliterators in hand to hand combat, the molten door exploded outward in a spray of slag, the gobbets coalescing in midflight and aiming for the constantly-mutating chaos menaces. It didn't stop them, but it bought crucial time for the followers of the Emperor, as Adivan led the bridge security force into battle with a fearsome cry.

Gix blasted one horror point blank with his plasma pistol. He sheathed the weapon and drew his power sword and he swept the area in front of his with a beam of warp flame from his force rod. One step behind him was Hethor, covering his back and flanks while blazing away with bolt pistol and plasma pistol. The storm troopers supported them with a hail of fire as Gix plunged foreward, protected by powered armour and conversion field.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Kazegor staggered under the Sword's firepower. A plasma blast vaporized his upper right arm, severing his assault cannon. Several support struts failed under the incoming fire and and several power cables were severed. Kazegor clumsily lashed out with the stormbolter on his left arm and his body failed under the cascade of Imperial fire.

The Obliterator that Jolan shot screeched as its physical form was disrupted by the plasma blast, its mutating face howling with pain and anger as it collapsed inward upon itself.

The force wave disrupted the other three, but did not stop them. One lunged for Jolan, its hands transformed into fearsome power claws. The other took Adivan head-on, lashing out with chainbladed arms. He deftly parried and dodged.

The third, meanwhile, had sprouted a flamer from each arm, and channeled blasts of fire to either side, sweeping along the ranks of the assembled troops. The bridge security force, less armored than Jolan's people, screamed hideously as the wave of flame enveloped them...

-----------------
Prius rose suddenly, his eyes glowing with power. His arms cast outward as he thrust a wave of mental force at Kazegor.

One of the Swordsman muttered across his open vox. "He is a Saint, by the Emperor..."

Again his voice echoed across the chamber, coming not from his throat but from the air around them.

"Back. Into. The. Warp. Hell-spawn!"

With each word he thrust another mental lance at Kazegor. Around them, pipes burst. One Swordsman's flamer tank exploded, showering him and two of his unlucky companions in a gout of promethium that spontaneously ignited.

Kazegor let loose a deafening scream. The eardrums of the two nearest soldiers burst. The daemon-machine's skull face exploded outwards as the daemon's remnenants were scattered to the warp.

--------------------------------------------

Dravek reloaded his bolter as his Jerik's Reaper autocannon continued to scythe through navy ratings. Enough of this, Dravek thought as he stomped foreward. He punched in one skull and crushed another with his power glove. This was more like it.

-----------------------------------------------

Hethor lunged at the Obliterator, striking out with his power sword. Gix raised his power blade to parry as he projected a lance of psychic flame from his force rod.

Prius sank to his knees, the light fading from his eyes. Around him, the handful of surviving Swordsman and walking wounded likewise sank to their knees, making the sign of the aquila and praying aloud for the Emperor's grace. His dark eyes came back into focus as he stared at the remnants of the daemon.

I did it.

Then:

We did it. The Emperor and I. All praise to the God-Emperor.

Little did he realize that his lips were moving, and though the sound was subaudible, his powers were affecting the men around him. In unison they chanted.

"All praise to the God-Emperor. All praise to the God-Emperor."

----------------------

The Obliterator's flesh parted and curled away from the power sword strike, but defending against that attack opened it up for the strike from Jolan's force rod, which penetrated into its shoulder. Unholy green and gold flames erupted from the wound as it howled in pain, a third arm thrusting out of its midriff to strike at Hethor, its other claws tangled up with Jolan's staff...

In the background, Adivan whirled and cast out with his hand, slamming his opponent backwards with a telekinetic strike. The obliterator staggered, nearly overbalancing, before its mutable body shift its center of gravity, allowing it to lunge forward. One blade locked with his power sword, the other scored a wound along his side...

The third obliterator turned toward the survivors of Severa's team, arms warping into bolters...

Severa raised her plasma pistol and yelled "Krak grenades!" The undermounted grenade launchers fired as she blasted plasma at the unholy thing.

Adivan psychicly shoved foreward to break the deadlock and give him an opening to strike.

Hethor retreated from the Obliterator's strike as Jolan leveled his force rod at it. Fire was Gix's specialty and Hethor knew what was going to happen next. An intense blast of warp fire roared forth at the Obliterator.

------------------------------------------

Dravek was nearing the flight decks. Soon he would slaughter the flight crew and use the fuel and ammunition to ravage even more of the ship.

--------------------------------------------
The last surviving Infidel darted past the Swords. It made a quick pass through the periphery of the transports, angling to evade now that it was alone. Escaping the Imperial frigates was its only concern.

Its prey caught it. Even light guns are ferocious enough in numbers. Four ships with varying degrees of arnament managed to intercept it along its path. The first ship's guns were a nuisance, but the second pushed the Infidel's void shield's to the limit. The third pushed past overloard in a storm of energy and the forth smashed through its unshielded hull and blew her plasma reactor. For a brief moment, surveyors were blinded by a flash and then it was gone.

The grenades thumped into and around the Obliterator, destroying it... but not before it got off burst from each of its storm bolters, raking into the troopers.

The blast of fire washed over Gix's Obliterator, wrapping it in a cloak of flame. It screamed a hellish cry as its surface warped and ran, faces and limbs sprouting from odd locations, features running like wax. It lunged forward, arms spread wide as it attempted to bearhug Gix and take him with it in its death...

Adivan's strike sliced into the Obliterator, opening a horrendous gash along its midsection. Staggering back, he focused his powers on the wound and jammed a surge of force into the gaping hole. The Obliterator howled as it was literally shredded from the inside, its body expanding and bloating outward in a grotesque display. As it reached the limits of even its obscene flesh, it suddenly exploded in a shower of warped flesh and entrails, showering everyone in the vicinity.

Gix stepped to the side and sliced off one of the Obliterator's arms as Hethor shoulder charged it, knocking it over. The veteran's carapace armour and refractor field prevented him from the worst of the contact. Gix made a mental note to hit Obliterators harder next time he encountered them. It seemed that just short of full force wasn't doing it, even if he did have to conserve his strength.

The Obliterator collapsed to the floor, melting into a shape that could not longer even be described as humanoid, rivulets running off it that tried desperately to morph into some form or shape, only to dissolve into primordial muck. After a few moments it was mercifully over, the only sound being the crackle of the flames and the cries of the wounded...

---------------
Many decks below, the Dark Champion Fliridor grimaced. It had been hoped that the Obliterators would eliminate the bridge crew.

But if the defenses were heavily concentrated there, the dual strikes against the stored munitions and engineerium were likely to go off. It was a worthy exchange. He raised his daemon sword and howled, his echoing voice sending shivers through the defenders as he led his warriors on a charge against the engineerium...

Severa consulted her data slate. "We have boarding parties heading towards the enginarium and the main ammunition magazines."

With a sigh of resignation Adivan said, "I'll take the enginarium."

"Right," responded Gix. "We'll take the munitions storage. Let's go."

-------------------------------------------------

Viscious and Poniard closed on Bloody Hands. The frigates began firing as the Retribution turned broadside to them. It added its own gun decks to the fight. Bloody Hands' void shields failed in a hail of plasma and macro cannon fire. Then the Retribution's heavy lances blazed a hole in her spine, wrecking her bombardment cannons.

Viscious spun away in a flare on energy as fusion beams and close range missles hammered her void shields. Only the absence of Bloody Hands' bombardment cannons allowed her to survive.

--------------------------------------------------------

Drevak turned towards his beastmen. Armed for close quarters battle, their mesh armour and abhuman tougness allowed them to dish it out and take it. He pointed towards the launch bays where the crewmen were hastily assembling defences. "Kill them all," he commanded. He smiled as the howling horde engaged.

"Close quarters battle," Sergeant Malekor ordered, energy corsucating across the surface of his power fist. Only a handful of armsmen stood between his squad and the munitions magazine. They lunged into the naval crew, hacking, chopping, and crushing skulls as they went.

Hethor was in the lead when they made contact with the traitors. He was running full tilt foreward, outpacing the rest of the men. He knew if those traitors blew the ammo stores, they were dead men. And he betrayed himself. He got reckless.

Fuck it, thought Hethor as he realized he was exposed and seconds away from his back up. He fired his plasma gun, blasting a huge hole through a marine's torso and charged. If he killed enough of them, threw them back until help arrived, he might live. Not that he would have put a bent decicred on it.

------------------------------------------------------------

Unlike the Sword, the Retribution's flight crew were free to operate. A rearmed and reinforced wave of bombers headed towards the Bloody Hands. The fighters attacked the turrets with autocannons, plasma bolts, krak missles, and lascannons. They wrecked some turrets, distracted some others, and blazed the way for the bombers.

A few of the fighters paid for their efforts in blood. The bomber crews took advantage of it. The heavily armoured Strike Cruiser was quite resistant to the plasma missles carried by bombers, but the hole burned by the Retribution's lances was another matter. They homed in on it.

Missle after missle was fired into the gap. The Bloody Hands shattered along the midline and then blew apart in a massive explosion. Several of the bombers were consumed by it, but the rest circled back to rearm, refuel, and kill again.
