if something hasn't exploded or bill and bob aren't freaking out you're doing it wrong.

If a black-hawk flies over a light show and is not harmed, does that make it immune to lasers?

Something like that should be along pretty soon, considering there's already an assistant autopilot.MKSheppard wrote:Yes, I want something that I can just toggle on....something called an...Instrument Unit.

Oh, My, GOD.
New KSP is Haarrrd.
You think all you need to do is just go fast and kinda Point in the direction of the moon? Hah, fat chance!!
Learning how to calculate an orbit that not only intersects the moon, but shall do so so that the moon passes by at the same time as your ship/
OY VEY!

That's actually pretty easy. You need to get into a low orbit around Kerbin, wait until you see the Mün come over the horizon, and then thrust until your apoapsis is roughly the same as the Mün's.
Re: Shep is going to love this little rocket game
It becomes harder when you want to land in a SPECIFIC SPOT. The navigational tools in the game just aren't up to the task, and while you could calculate all the relevant details by hand it's...kinda counterproductive

Re: Shep is going to love this little rocket game
Ok so apprently getting to the moon is not bas bad as I thought.
I reached Lunar Orbit with a rocket I built orginally just for testign gettign into orbit around the planet.
The "Show Orbit' utility is a real game changer here. Looking back on my old rocktes. Where I was to make a "moon" rocket for leaving orbit, they are way WAY Over designed.
Raw power isn't needed so much as fine control over the rocket.
Last night I made it TOO Lunar orbit... If I had more fuel left from all the course corrections I made, I would have made it BACK ok as well.

Re: Shep is going to love this little rocket game
I'll check in a while to see if I still have my rocket that landed on the moon and got back again. It was pretty small actually, the real problem is that the stuff to make a viable lunar lander imposes a pretty decent cost. I wound up airbraking to deorbit at the end. Good times.
