Oh yeah definately, I'm loving the game especially if I'm able to play it with friends. I figured out how to give my guy Delta Force goggles so that my goon friends can not shoot me in the face, they're so big and noticible it makes for a great unofficial uniform.

The game is an interesting exercise in game theory, if when meeting random strangers I can run away, try to cooperate or shoot him and take his stuff.

Code: Select all

                Shoot | Cooperate
Shoot [X/X] | [O/X]
Cooperate [X/O] | [O/O]
Decided not to include "run away" as it is missing the point, in each of the random 1 on 1 or small group encounters so far whoever simply decides to heck with it and shoots first has a pretty compelling advantage, unless you have a pistol. :(

So far I've managed to either get good stuff and die, or not get stuff and die. Gotta somehow get down the "not dying" part and then bridge it to the "get stuff" part.

That's the dumbest results breakdown I have ever seen. Yah, if two people decide to fight they both lose... Somehow.

Actually, given the way events are handled by the server at the moment, you can both shoot and kill each other before the actions resolve, thus you both die.

It's a good reason to stay away from other people. At least the zombies are handled locally by your machine.

Uh, if you're going to kill people, why wait until you both are aware of each other? Given the only need for itemisation is to kill other people, how's a guy with a pistol going to do shit to captain tactical lategame ATV patrol?

I mean beyond the need to write an emotionally overwrought fanfic about how bad you feel for having shot someone In a multiplayer game. :v

There's also when you both shoot each other and even if you win the engagement its still possible to succumb to your wounds, but the chart was more for random encounters, as you you and the other guy just sort of randomly run into each other and don't have the oppurtunity to scope each other out and instead must fight or flight.

What the... :shock::
ArmA2's latest patch was officially released yesterday after months of beta patches, and it unexpectedly brought with it a number of nerfs to weapons used in DayZ. The thing that the most people have noticed is that revolvers and M1911's can't one shot zombies anymore... but it gets worse.

All pistols and submachine guns have had their damage reduced. Shotgun slugs, the Lee Enfield, AK-74, AKS-74U, and AKS-74 Kobra had their damage reduced as well.
Although in return, the Lee Enfield's infamous "audible range" was also reduced.

This is pre-WWII. You can sort of tell from the sketch style, from thee way it refers to Japan (Japan in the 1950s was still rebuilding from WWII), the spelling of Tokyo, lots of details. Nothing obvious... except that the upper right hand corner of the page reads "November 1931." --- Simon_Jester

Apparently this was cooked into the latest ARMA 2 OA stable patch, instead of being a DayZ patch, that affects non-DayZ ARMA 2 as well.

I dunno... A .303's going to do a lot more damage than 5.56mm in reality

You're talking about scaling for fairness, right? Is that really what this game's about? To be perfectly honest the only thing I wanted an assault rifle for was the magazine capacity. Otherwise an Enfield would/should be the business if you're like me and prefer to draw the horde into a forest and then gun them down.

Tim, if the rarer stuff isn't better, people might realise the endless trawls for loot are actually meaningless. It's necessary to give the obsessives some actual advantage beyond school camp photo opportunities.

No. I am talking about there even being a reason for different weapons. I have brought up the point, that nothing in the game matters all that much, before. This change might make you think about what weapon you take with you.

Choppers got added back in today and we already encountered one.

So have you tried relocating your camp yet to some inaccessible except by Helio roof or mountain top?
And have you planned what to do after a disconnect or lag spike at the wrong time turns it into a burning wreck on the Vally floor.

We are fully prepared to lose the chopper. It will hold nothing valuable. Our pilots have good connections. And the passengers that disconnect are reconnecting on the ground.

The chopper is not being parked near anything.

Mang, do you remember when people were talking about this interesting sounding survival mod for ARMA that was all zombies and shit and about eking out a basic subsistance by risking your juicy brains to get at tins of beans?

Those were good times.

Well, they were times, y'know....

And after playing a running simulator for a month and a half I enjoyed having new options.

Anyway, our jeep got stolen. And the chopper crashed.

So we have a single vehicle. This game is awesome. Right after you are have everything, you can lose it all practically.
