(Man I've been doing a lot of posts lately...)

What do you think I've been trying to do! This isn't easy you know!

EDIT: (since I don't want to but yet another post so soon...)

You see, the thing is that the angle is proving to be the most difficult part since I'm not sure what they mean. If I did I could probably do it...as it is...I'm struggling. Hence PeZook may need to just put his own angle in and just use the rest of what I have.

The only remaining figure is "angle off the bow."

Is that the angle the torpedo takes off our bow? That is, if we say "five degrees," does that mean the torpedo turns five degrees after leaving our bow, and heads away on a bearing of 005 or 355 degrees?

Or is that the angle off the bow of the ship we're firing the torpedo at? In which case to get the answer, all you have to do is imagine where their ship would see us, relative to its own bow. You can estimate that just by drawing a line through the sightings and figuring out where our position is compared to that line. Think: if they spotted us right now, would they say "U-1313 sighted at 2 o'clock!"? Or more like 1 o'clock? 1:30?

I say stay in character and just make something up, personally. We're going to die on this patrol, anyway, and it'd make for a metric farkton of hilarity if we were all killed by our own torpedo

No, the course that the torpedo will take after leaving the tube is the output of the torpedo calculator's, well...calculations.

We're talking angle on the bow of the target ship.

Yeah, I actually figured that out for myself after considering how many equations in how many unknowns the computer would have to solve- it needs the angle-off-bow of the target ship to get a firing solution at all.

And Dokken... I'm pretty sure not even Skywalker could manage to order the torpedo to swim around in a circle and blow us up from behind.

Oh, I wasn't referring to the ineptitude of skywalker alone, no no no. I have it on good authority that the man driving the boot had one week of basic training and for the 10 years prior he was a cobbler.

Hey! I resent that...I'm not inept! My school is for not having Trig as a basic math course! (and I will say its my fault for the angle thing...but nothing more than that! :P )

If Skywalker doesn't get the torpedo to swim round in a circle, then how is the boot driver supposed to catch up with the torpedo?

You know what...I give up...I'll just make an educated guess off the picture of our periscope...

So final tally is:

-Torpedo speed: 30 knots

-Torpedo Depth: 9.5 meters

-Fuse: Magnetic/Impact

-Target Speed: 7 knots

-Range: 1400 meters

-Angle: (I'm just going to guess at this point...) 80 degrees (on the Liberty Ship)

EDIT: Now, either the eel's will hit...or they don't and I'm suddenly cooking our meals. This should be fun...

Also (darn edit window)...can we just say if I completely botched the angle or distance (you did say that 1400 meters was more or less correct right PeZook?) that my character doesn't miss since we are at peashooter distance and he can actually eyeball the targets (which I can't do). It would certainly make me feel better (and it would still have comedy since after launching the torps he would probably pass out if a couple miss...not noticing the big ships go boom-boom).

No fudging for better score.

It's unfair and also annoying since loading a GWX save takes five minutes of staring at the progress bar :P

Hey it was worth a try wasn't it? :P After all, who would want to be stuck on kitchen duty on this asylum of a sub? Even if the Koch gets shot for treason it still wouldn't be a good situation...now one just has to hope I got it right (or at least close enough) to hit something...

I think this is why Der Kommandant didn't want to take any of the pattern-runnig torpedoes aboard :P

Phew...I wasn't too late. I want to make a slight change...on the Torpedo running depth, have the one shot at the Liberty be 9.2 meters, while the rest are 8 meters. With the magnetic/impact fuse's being used they will work either below a ship or hitting them...but if ships in the convoy have shallower draft than the Liberty we don't want them going to deep. Also, the externals can be used with the same settings (aside from the magnetic fuse...since they don't have them :P ) if the Kommandant wants to use them of course... (same settings aside from the depth, which will be further lowered to 7 meters to take into account the impact only fuse's on the T 1's).

And I'm supposed to know this how? Don't have the game remember? :P That being said, I was just using the big old Liberty as a base for the settings. If you don't want to target it, then by all means, switch all the torpedoes to 8 meter depth and shoot at the things you suggested (I don't know what there actually is to target obviously...that's up to PeZook).

Absolute silence filled the boat as the whole crew was waiting for the Bavarian to finally come up with the correct numbers to feed the Rechner with.

Men froze at their stations, everyone filled with the anxiety of the hunt, the final test - they were about to let the eels loose, and then, the game was on. Muscles tensed and glistered in the dull light of the ships interior as the smell level rose another notch on the scale as adrenaline and testosterone vapours filled what qualified as air inside a sub.

Only Funkenschuster twitched occasionally, pinching the ends of a wire that had been severed in the earlier alarm dive together with is fingers to shunt it until he could do a proper repair, later.
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay
