Dude, I warned you. Sligh is the master of all it surveys, and only the cheapest of Academy decks can defeat it regularly.

CHill
That beats sligh
Sligh is a very bad deck, but it is dangerously consistant. If you cannot control by turn 5 sligh will win.
Legend Ankh sligh is the best version by the way. My buddy fill piloted it to second at gencon. That would make him one of the top players in the world.

As for you Nitram. The new cards are almost all horrendously underpowered. You did not witness the old days. Academy was hideous. The deck was so overpowered that nothing could regularly beat it. There was no point in playing magic around Saga/Legacy, none. DOn't ask for the old days of slow magic. Magic has slowed down for the past 3 years.

I'm glad I missed the part that happened 4 years ago, then.

Just remember, we let SirNitram take his Coat of Arms back, because of the discussion over whether or not it would apply to Artifact Creatures.

Personally, I think that Artifact Creature is an acceptable Type in respects to any card that affects Creature Type. After all, something that states "Kill all creatures" usually applies to artifact creatures, unless it's stated otherwise (ie. Terror: 'any non-black, non-artifact').

Discussion?

Artifact creature is a specification not a creature type. It states that the creature is both an artifact and a creature, it is not its type.
Artifact creature-golem would be a golem. Otherwise COA would affect all creatures no matter what.

Actualy anything thats not a creature is underpowered compared to the old versions. Shock vs L.bolt, and cabal ritual vs dark as another. Creatures though are better on average. The worst of the new creatures are worst than the worst of the old. For example akroma vs spirit of the night, and exalted angel vs the other spirit linked one. Though some cards are probly just as good as there old counterparts. Fetches vs duels for an example are about equal to eachother, fetches being more useful in decks were land thinning is a boon. Duels being more usefull every where else. But they have great synergy together.

Me Vs Cyran...
Round 1: My Red/White/Arti deck against his zombies. I lost... Couldn't move fast enough, although I managed to burn him for 9 with one blaze.

Round 2: My White deck versus his vampires. I whittled away at his life with my shadow creatures, then when he thought he had killed me, he realized he forgot about my Worship  Surrendered, since I had a Voice of All with pro-black, and he run a mono-black deck...

Sure you hit me with a 9 point blaze. But a few turns later I hit you for 12, and I could have done a full 20  .

Bastard of a Worship...I almost had you...stupid pro-black...I could have dealt with the Worship if I could have made you feed your creatures to my vampires...

ACs are creatures, but not summons. This is a distinction which does have some effect on the game. If something affects all summons or prevents summons from being cast, artifact creatures can still be played.

no. There are no summons anymore, period. Something that prevents creatures from being played prevents artifact CREATURES from being played as well. Download the master rules from the MTG website and read them please. Please people. I am not a rules guru, but simple things like this piss off veteran players like me. Sorry to be an old grouch, but dealing with this shit gets annoying.

You know that anyone who plays the game with any fervor or professional bent knows the rules just fine. Don't flame casual players because they aren't up-to-date on the rules, don't know errata for every card, and don't know what the hell a 'restricted' list is (and that makes most casual players - most I know refuse to play with errata, prefering to take literally whatever's on their cards).

They spent their cash on cards, and there's no reason they can't play with the old rules if they want.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Did they change that rule again? Shit...it was like that for fourth edition, then they changed it for seventh (I think, may have been another edition), now they've apparently changed it back again. Ice Age and 4e were the last easy-to-understand rule sets. Mirage and everything after have just screwed things up. Since I haven't bought cards in over a year, the last ruleset I have is the full Mirage plus the addendums from other series (Urza's Saga, Invasion, etc.)

Lagmonster, I don't care if they don't know the errata on every card, someone can easily go to oracle and show them it. I just dislike when someone tries to make a rules proclamation that is so blatantly round that a single reading of the rulebook would have prevented it. Its not something that should be done when playing any game. House rules are fine, but be sure you understand the real rules. I have to know the rules to Monopoly before I can play drinking Monopoly.
I am not here to be a walking rulebook, or to be some jerk, but I have arguably the most experience in both casual and tournament enviroments, and as such, would be the best person to listen too. I am sorry if people dislike the fact that I can casually dismiss what they think are competitive decks, but thats what I had to deal with for a year when I worked at the local cardshop. It is generally annoying to tell someone 5 times that Yawgmoths will is the most broken card ever made, and still have them say they don't wanna use it because its not good enough.

"Yawgmoth"? Would that be Eye of Yawgmoth, Order of Yawgmoth, Priest of Yawgmoth, Yawgmoth Demon, Yawgmoth's Agenda, Yawgmoth's Bargain, Yawgmoth's Edict, or Yawgmoth's Will? (not that I have any of them, I'm just curious)

Yeah, that yawgmoth, and I have all of them.
He's the undisputed ruler of the plane of Phyrexia, and is an almost demigod. He is trying to destroy the plane of Dominaria from the set of Antiquaties up to Apocolypse. He is killed by Karn. He's a big fucking baddass.
And Yawgmoths will is too fucking broken.

Of *COURSE* he's not dead. Major planewalking villians never die easily. :)

I need to find that book, I've not read it yet. But Karn 'kills'/defeats Yawgmoth, hmm?

Yowch...just read the text, and yeah, that's just a little broken for three mana. Like I said, I haven't kept up with the rules shifts or new cards for about 6-7 years. I'll buy a booster deck every now and then just to see what new rules there are and to try to add cards. Only really good thing I've gotten is a Mirari. With that and Time Stretch, enemies get real frustrated. Four turns in a row for me (unless they've added some errata I'm not aware of).

Woah...Just took a look at Mirroden. Lots of old cards have made a come back (Under different names) I'm only in the E's and I've already seen a new Drain Life and a take off of Empyrial Armor.

List

EDIT: Ahhh! Icy Manipulator...so many other sick cards...SPOILER CARD:

Imprint — When Isochron Scepter comes into play, you may remove an instant card with converted mana cost 2 or less in your hand from the game. (The removed card is imprinted on this artifact.)
Pay 2, Tap: You may copy the imprinted instant card and play the copy without paying its mana cost.

Can you say...imprint counterspell?
