Sounds cool... the Caucusus doesn't look taken yet. May i have it?

If yes, then the Neo-Khazars will rule a mid-size empire (please?), stretching from the Crimea to the black sea, south to where Northern Armenia would be, and north almost to Volgograd. Mostly horse-based cavalry for army, average size (70 units? do i read right as average). A few boats in the Black sea and the Caspian, mostly defensive (and some trade in the black). The army is two-part: a small permanent professional force and a larger peasant conscript 'ready reserve', which trains a few weeks a year.

The Neo-Khazars (actual name: The Khazar Imperium) are mixed central asian and eastern european Jews, ruled by an Emperor. Lots of natural resources to trade, but relatively little flat farmland (mostly in the north). Rest of the country is mountainous, and full of metal ores, coal, and oil in addition to grazing goats and sheep and foresting. The Khazars are somewhat expansive, but aren't generally conquerors.

The primary military weapon would be the longbow, often launched from horseback. Military is highly mobile, but has relatively little protection: leather and maybe chainmail armor if lucky. Spears and swords are also used.

No magic or elves (at least not yet). The Khazars are just ordinary white and central asian jews.

May I? Please?

PM me with your request, and read the whole thread so you understand the system, please. No, a mid-sized nation is NOT 70 regiments.

Oh, and a nation without magic will get steamrolled unless it has some HUGE otehr advantage, and I don't know you well enough as an STGODer to offer you such a deal.

Speaking of which, are we going to have anything in those white spaces? If not, what are the rules reguarding the white spaces going to be?

White Spaces are regions which are not heavily settled yet. Expect them to contain barbarian tribes (to be run by Hotfoot, if he'd like,) and inhospitable wilderness. Magical beasts, that sort of thing. Here There Be Dragons.

When the final map is made, we'll include some roads amongst the European powers which stretch through white territory, remnants from some long-dead empire. Some of you may be interested in those.

One would assume it's populated with barbarian tribes, smaller city-states, and just plain wilderness.

I can see there being 3 reasons for space being "white"

1. Unuseable land, no one can really "live" there for whatever reason.

2. Free wilderness, land of no apparent value. Useable land without any particular value, claimable, but for what purpose?

3. Inhabited by small tribes. Again, the land is likely to possessanything of real value, though instead of untouched wilderness there are small villages or the like, perhaps even defended by local warlods.. I suppose you could conquer them, but why would you want to?

Actually, those were far from the empty sort of lands that we're talking about. Gaul was rather populous and certainly more developed than you give them credit for.

And of course ol' Gaius Julius most just came to kick ass and make his name.

Excuse me typo. It should read:

NONE of the characters in my OOB exceed "normal" power levels.

Meaning Tapper is not a Uber Knight Paladin. He's just a skilled and smart Windrunner War Chief.

Malrissia is just a "normal" Shameness.

Beldoth is a very old wise but not overly powerful old Shamen.

Get it?

Agent Fisher: Your nation is SMALL in size for a Medium Power. I'm nixing the idea that all your regiments are Dragoons. Unless, of course, you'd like to field a smaller number of regiments, or make your current regiments weaker...

Add to this the fact you don't have a particularly small army for a medium power. I field somewhere in the realm of 8000 troops, that's small for a medium power.

they do not fight from horseback. They use them to get around instead of marching.

I have only three regiments trained to fight from horseback

Um, what?

Dragoons don't fight from horseback. They are infantry who use horses to move about.

Once again, nixed. Giving your entire army Cavalry-scale strategic speed is silly.
