I had to throw a dozen grenades at the goddamned thing before he finally caught one with his head...though when he started to burn me, I just slapped on a scientist suit and laughed at his feeble efforts.

I coincidentally already had one on - and it only takes about three 'hit' shots to kill them. Easy, if disorienting.

Yeah, lots of people I talked with had simply shot the bastard, but for some reason, I couldn't fucking hit him with my M4, so I just threw grenades at his path untill he decorated the walls :P

I didn´t have any ammo left when i reached that fucker and grenades were the only option. It took quite a while to get a grenade right, but now he´s dining in hell.

Stalker really needs more poltergeists, they are the most interesting enemy. Not only can they appear as a fireball like that, but if you encounter one in the world they either do the fire thing, stay invisible and throw anything they can at you and only appear if you dodge stuff or just follow you silently while screaming horribly every once and a while until someone else attacks, then they do.

I also had a bloodsucker "stalking" me the other day west of the bar, it was in a building and I'd hear it's panting, turn around and see it running from building to building. It didn't attack me until I got to the area with the train carts. Amusing.

Yes you do.
really why? I'm pretty sure I got past there without killing it. Or do you come back later?

AK + room full of bullets = no ammo problems. :)

I agree that the poltergiests and other 'wierd' enemies are the best. It's the closest Stalker seems to get to the original idea of constant danger and unknown risks - X18 and all the telekinetics is just awesome.

No... you don't. I jumped through the door and made my way out. Never fired a shot. I didn't even realize you *could* shoot that thing.

Then you must have experienced a bug. For thre rest of us, jumping at the door accomplished nothing.

Nope, I got locked in the little lab room with the baby corpses in the tubes while the poltergiest flew around and attacked me with the fires of hell.

Locked out? The door doesn't close or anything (was there even a door there?). As I recall there were little fire sprouts covering the exit, but I just jumped through the fire and continued on as usual. I assumed that the ghosts were just hazards you had to dodge like radiation or anomolies.

Then I have no idea how that happened. The door should be closed with no way to escape from the lab until you kill the ghost mutant.
Best care anywhere.

Definately a bug, then. There was a lot more fire blocking the door when I was there, and I got a message saying the door would not open when I tried to open it with the invisible guy still there.

I suppose I'm not surprised. I've got loads of quests which won't go away, even though I've gotten the reward and all. :?

I just restarted the game with some mods. I can highly recommend the Realism Enhancement Mod, which brings weapon damage up to a fairly "proper" level.

Im also toying with the Trader mod, but that one really kills the balance - although you get a chance to try out all the weaponry that is in the game.

You can find those mods on stalker.filefront.com

Enjoy

Borrowed the game today, and I've just made it to the Bar (or rather, just loaded up the area, walked off the road and been eaten by a pack of dogs). I thought Duty were big on exterminating mutants? :?

Also, I seem to recall reading reactions to the game on other forums and they were playing up the Agroprom lab as a "woo scary shit" area, but all I saw there were Spetsnaz, a bloodsucker and some telekinetic monster.

EDIT: I've got great timing: Storming Agroprom in the morning, fighting soldiers all day and then playing with the dogs as night falls.

I found the room after grenade use too, though I only had to use the one. That room was a life saver, since I was low on ammo in general.

Funny thing about that big floating fire bastard is, that all of my encounters in that lab were on a "what is that? Curious. I'll shoot it just in case" basis.

Poltergeists...I didnt know at first that those things were throwing stuff at me and I certainly didnt know that the floating electric-like clouds were poltergeists themselves. After a few minutes out of sheer boredom I took a shot at them and noticed they could be killed.

When I entered the final cloud, that big sun-like bastard floated into my view so I simply emptied the magazine.

And now Im hearing that people have huge problems with that critter. I tried a second attempt - with similar results.

Shit, seriously? The entire time I spent there I just assumed they were mysteriously mobile anomalies, and it never occurred to me to do anything but run.

I shot two of those damn poltergeists when I finally realised the same thing, but I'm going to load game and play the area again, hunt down all the poltergeists in the place. Scary, yes, but I don't want to leave them free to throw shit at me.

When I found out that they were poltergeists I tried to kill them all, but I couldn't seem to get rid of all of them, even when I thought I did, a barrel would hit me in the back, and there'd be some more... So either they infinitely respawn, or there are a lot... Either way, good hunting.
