I finally sat down and restarted STALKER (previous save game about 1/3 of the way through had eaten shit due to reinstall) and was disappointed to find that the realism mod caused show-stopper crashes on game launch. So, it's been pure vanilla for me. As such I'm going: "wheee GP37 headshot!"

I'm currently en route to the brain scorcher (and have met Guide and Doc) and am loving it. I'd forgotten what a great world GSC Gameworld had made. Once I finish this I'll have to move on to Clear Sky which is also in my pile of shame.

My standard loadout at this point is:
GP37
UDP
Ghost's Suit
3x Meat Chunk (for 1200% health regen) and 2x Flash (so I never run out of endurance)

It seems to be working out pretty well for me. And goddamn it's nice to play this without a single crash or piece of slowdown. Huge system and all the patches = great.

'The realism mod' is a pretty useless term; there's probably more 'realism mods' than there are STALKER players. Trying a single mod, having a problem and playing the utterly broken vanilla is just sad if it's not pitch-black at night and the AI perception doesn't work, the game is a complete waste of time.

Playing STALKER when Clear Sky exists is crazy, anyway. But hey, STALKER 0.8 will apparently be out soon, so we can all pay for another patch.

And holy jesus what's the point in bragging about your 'sweet loadout' in a game that's so easy?

I was just saying that's what I'm currently using, because 'sploits are funny. Between the 3x super-healing artefacts and Ghost's suit I can watch my health come back very quickly and as such I have a retarded abundance of medical supplies. But I'm guessing that this happened to everyone once you hit mid game an no longer have shitty weapons and armour and can go around one-shotting nearly everyone.

I am keen to finish STALKER and move onto Clear Sky though, as some of the features in that (actual faction combat) sounds awesome and the events in STALKER where a faction would enter a territory in force for a sweep were some of the best in the game. Just recently I had the Duty purge of Rostok where about 20 "unaffiliated" and Duty stalkers rolled in and just started clearing house of the mercs, bandits, dog and rat packs and even some blood suckers and snorks who had taken up residence. It was a great experience and I would like a few more large scale sweeps like that in Clear Sky (please don't tell me I'll be disappointed). I'd also love to be able to go: "hey everyone in the bar, I'll split the 5,000 rubles with you and give you loot if you roll on down to garbage with me to fuck some bandits up."
