Sixty first-stage missiles lept from the Floater fleet. After travelling half-way to their targets, they split apart into hundreds of submunitions. ECM rounds and decoys mixed with the real missiles, in spread hundrs of kilometers apart. The projectiles wove in among the withering point defence, exploding onto the shields of Kokand warships. The dozen strike cruisers burned past the main Floater fleet. Their M/AM reaction torched gave enough speed that the enemy would have time for only one volley before the mass drives and AM cannon could tear apart the Kokand formation.

Meanwhile, the Lancer screen was moving back to cover the dreadnought and attack carrier.

The Hammer closed with the remaining Floater vessels. Energy fire erupted from her sides. Grasers and lasers slammed into the Floater vessels blasting away weapons, armor and punching deep into the ships.

The captain hung his head as the former allies were slaughtered by his own weapons fire. The Floater ship wouldn't hold together much longer under the terrible pounding of the Hammer's guns.

At the exhibition hall things shifted into high gear. Additional reaction forces poured out and began sealing off each display. All visitors where moved away to the restaurant area. The company reps manning there displays where instructed to make preparations to pack up and leave. At the distance firing range buildings, the same situation was repeated, though with the guests sent back to the main building shortly after.

The exception was the Krytos and Floater personal manning their displays. They found themselves hauled off in handcuffs to the facilities small prison, intended mainly for shoplifters and drunks. It was a tight fit.

High above the battle went well for the Kokand force. With the new forces interdiction field up the Floaters could never escape. Half the monitor force was hit heavily but there battleship grade guns easily tore through the floater strike cruisers. A high agility hull coul have good protection or firepower. The floaters took firepower. Now they died for it, all of them where blown apart even as they took ten monitors to there graves as well.

There last remaining ships where now cought in the remaining guns and had little time left.

This is the "Fang Ripper" we are requesting immediate clearance to dock and dicharge wounded, in a quarentine facility, we are repatirating some of your packs!

The tight beam broadcast continued but would never be recieved until hours later due to the interdiction field. It came as a suprise when the Fenari military vessel full of civilians transited out it's bifrost drive disabled by the same interdiction fields.

The vessel exploded as it was caught in the crossfire. It was only then that the sensors noted the large number of human corpses tumbling out of the broken ship.

Five loud squawks went out over a radio frequency. And then a morse code message began and ended in Monacoran Code.

Five Minutes later a troop transport unloaded two companies of the Monacoran Army, they went storming through the hotel, not firing a single bullet. Six minutes later they came back out, with two Monacoran Observers, and the sedated bodies of the FLoater and KSE delagation, and carried them onto the transport.

Twenty minutes later, and out of system, the transport sent a tight-beam message ahead to floater high command. "Delegation safe, equipment safe, forward to KSE. En Route. Un-Avoidable circumstances, Monaco out."

Roughly 5000 slower-than-light fighters were being fueled, and 2500 prepared to exit the PSR's primary Martian base. In space, they fanned out by wing to cover PSR territory.

Meanwhile, the Cosmonaut-IV fleet platforms orbiting above the Ukraine disgorged a similar number of fighters; the 30 battleships and cruisers with their accompanying 60 frigates emerged as well.

Admiral Koznetsky, a 60 year old Imperial officer turned Republican, transmitted his message from aboard the flagship Decembrist:
"Attention, all combatant vessels--The PSR declares its neutrality in this conflict. The actions of the Krytos and Floater vessels constituted an act of war, and the Democratic Defensive Pact is not activated by this battle. However, we demand an immediate end to these hostilities. The Pan-Slavic Republic is the possessor of substantial Martian and other solar territories, and finds combat fought in a theatre so near these areas intolerable.

"The Slavic colonies established widely throughout Sol by the Russian Empire centuries ago give us the legal ability to control and tax traffic in much of the home system of humans. We have continued the rules of decency and generosity established by the Russian Empire in presenting this system as fully free to traffic by Earth based nations.

"Do not betray this trust, for generosity is fleeting. I repeat, end your hostilities in near Mars orbit. Continue them away from places of Slavic settlement, if you wish, or use the breathing time to reconsider this path to war.

"Admiral, we're receiving a message from the delegation at IDCEX. Apparently the Floaters and the Krytos SE decided to try and take over the exposition. The pair of destroyers we sent are currently staying clear from the fire zone."

Why did this always have to happen? the admiral thought. We just finished a war a couple weeks ago. Sigh. "Bring the fleet to condition 4. Send TF 4 off to investigate. Bring TF 2 & 3 to full alert stations."

This post is bullshit. Your ships would have been blown out of space and your troops would face a pitched battle inside. In case you didn't notice the planet has battlestations in orbit, heavy security in the form of army troops and a fuckload of warships around it.

You cannot simply ignore the reality of the situation and claim to have done this in six minutes without firing a shot.

The Transports are cloaked, just as I said in my Orbat Decleration.

We will accept these humans under strict quarantine measures. They will be moved to one of our military hospital ships.

The Skaven escort carrier Catabole sped to Kokand through the Warp. The delegation would arrive late due not only to the great distance but also to unexpected Warp turbulence. The ship was still en route when it received an astropathic transmision from its embassy on Kokand.

Seer Viskrik finished typing and looked up at his computer screen. His whiskers flittered briefly in alarm at what he had written. He jabbed at his intercom control, keying in the Admiral's call number. "Admirial Grishak, urgent message from the Kokand. 'Exhibition under attack, Krytos and Floaters responsible, NBA treaty invoked.' Message ends"

"ETA?"

"Three hours sir."

"Status?"

"We set out eight galleys short. That leaves seven. Four had jousting caps on. Crews are working on them, expect two refits completed before arrival. Total five combat ready galleys. All fighters are prepped and ready."

The Free Floater Republics would like to call a meeting of the United Planets.

We would like to bring forwards the warmongering, violent actions of the Kokand Empire, as evinced by their detainment of over one hundred citizens of the Free Republic of Xanadu, their unsupportable claims that Krytos and Floater vessels attempted to capture the expo, and their desdtruction of a Floater vessel which had stood down it's arms.

LIVE BROADCAST FROM ROME
LIVE IMAGES AS WAR EXPLODES IN THE KOKAND EMPIRE!

We are now recieving reports LIVE from a Roman shuttle observing the tech-expo being held in the Kokand Empire. It appears that shots have been fired and that several fleets are currently BATTLING in the sky above the planet.

We are recieving LIVE IMAGES from the shuttle, apparently named the Bona Cena. The shuttle appears to be staying out of the fighting; we can't say we blame him, so forgive us if the images are slightly blurry.

Reports are still coming in...the Floater Republics have angry denounced the New Bejing Alliance...it appears several Floater and Kokand vessels have been destroyed or damaged in the conflict.

Emperor Romulus Augustus is scheduled to make a broadcast to the Senate and Assembly shortly...he is expected to reaffirm Rome's stance of neutrality. The Lupi fleet, scattered about during the last war and mostly untouched by the Asgard attack on Octavius, has been dispatched to defend the caepida.

Roman forces on Earth have mobilized and we are recieving word that the shielded surface batteries have been activated...the Astralegios I has been put on red alert. The Emperor is also expected to urge a quick and painless resolution to the conflict.

We are now activating the live video feed from the Bona Cena...

In a press release from the Imperial Palace the Emperor has decried the Krytos and Floater actions and called for peace.

To quote: We find the unprovoked attack with WMDs by the Krytos to be appalling. They fired unprovoked upon a Kokand world. We also find it rather troubling that the Floater so quickly abandoned their principles in hope to grab the gains of war. The Asgard Empire decries the attack the subsequent incident. It is our hope that this can be resolved but we stand behind our fellow Pact members.

The Bona Cena has contacted the Senate and a decision has been reached. Marcus Scipio Crassus, owner of the Bona Cena, has agreed to turn the scans his vessel obtained over to the United Planets for analysis; he has also agreed to testify, if necessary. A Roman delegation will also be dispatched, headed by the son of the Emperor himself.

KHARAMITE TASK FORCE UZIEL DESTROYED:

In an act of unprecedented agression earlier today, forces of the New Beijing Alliance opened fire on, and destroyed, the Free Xanadar Vessel "Black Alice." The "Black Alice" had just powered down her weapons, in an effort to bring a degree of civility to the situation. Ignoring this action, Kokand Imperial vessels destroyed the "Black Alice." She went down with all hands. No news has arrived from her escort of lancers, thoughy our anylysts tell us it is unlikely any of them survived, even with stealthing.

Seconds later, Kokand and Asgard vessels moved to destroy Task Force Uziel, out of the Uziel Military Cluster in Kharam, headed by the dreadnought "Thor's Hammer." Kharamite vessels had time to arm weapons, and thus were able to put up a fight before being overwhelmed by numbers. Her escorts were destroyed attempting to blast a path for her escape. She, along with the Attack Carrier "Deacon," were surrounded by a group of Asgardian vessels. Last transmissions from the battlefield show that the Asgard fleet, despite an intimate knowledge of Floater tactics fostered in our years of cooperation, decided to close into energy weapon range, without first damaging or disabling the "Thor's Hammer's" ECM defences. The "Thor's Hammer" had reported eight kills on enemy capital ships before her transmission cut off. The "Deacon" registered two kills before we lost contact.

The events leading to this exchange began when a Krytos battleship demonstrated a new heavy weapon against an uninhabited section of the planet. Kokand vessels immediatly opened fire on the Kryos battleship. The "Black Alice" moved to investigate, and was ordered to stand down by Kokand forces. The "Black Alice's" captain, perhaps fearing for the floater delegates on the planet, maintained a state of readiness. When NBA fleets called in reinforcements, the "Black Alice" sent a general call for assistance, which the Uziel task force, out on deep space maneuvers, was able to answer.

Upon arriving on scene, Bondman Commodore Mark Cole, commander of Task Force Uziel, requested an explanation of the gathering of NBA warships and the attack upon the Krytosian warship. No answer was given, besides seemingly empty insults from the Kokand commander. Seeing that a New Roman vessel in system might act to moderate the situation, Bondman Commodore Cole ordered all his vessels, and the Black Alice, to stand down weapons, which they immediatly did. Seconds later, the Kokand fleet opened fire on the "Black Alice."

Delegates from the Council of the Four Republics will meet immediatly following the United Planets summit on this issue. Until that time, officials are declaring a state of mililtary watchfulness in all Floater colonies. Brothers and Sisters who live in the Asgard Empire's space are asked to go silent, and avoid contact with Heavy ships. All NBA vessels nearing Republican holdings will be carefully watched.

And Kokand will not allow the illegal entry of hostile fleets into its territory! It was only after these floater scum brought a war fleet into our sovereign system that we engaged! They where give a chance to stand clear, then repeated chances to leave. They ignored all of them and where destroyed. It was a fitting fate for these war mongering people who rejected normal society and now spend there time in deep space creating a new super race. You are fools to follow them.

The embassy staff of the star nations of Krytos, the floaters and Durandles Empire now have twenty four hours to leave Kokand space via neutral transport.

"Well, reports are in. The Floaters deliberately provoked it and fired on our vessels. Frankly we suffered heavy damage to the Hammer, the Floater's X-ray lasers were damn effective once they got in range. I'm still waiting on the surveyors report on Hammer; they think they can eventually salvage her. I doubt it though. She took relatively light casualties for all the damage she took.

They claim one of our Battle Cruiser Squadrons engaged them though only Hammer ever fired a shot. BatCruRon 7 never got into the system in time to engage them. Obviously our decoys work far, far better than we ever thought. "

The young Commodore finished his report

"So any idea why they fired? And are their claims true that we destroyed them after they stood down?"

The young Commodore replied with confidence

"Clearly this was a pre-planned provocation on their part. What the ultimate aim is I don't care to speculate. They clearly ignored all attempts to negotiate and pressed the issue until war broke out. So much for their peace and love bullshit huh?"

That produced grim smiles

"We didn't fire on any of vessel that didn't fire on us. I can say for certain that none of the ships stood down when our captain asked and in fact were threatening our vessels. They all were firing. So I can only conclude it's after the fact propoganda."
