I stop a random person on the street and ask him where can find the town fathers, city council, may, lord, or whoever runs this town

You find a somewhat large wooden building nesteled between two shops. A sign with "Mayors office" written on it hangs above the door.

There's a man in scruffy artisans clothes sitting behind the desk, and he appears to be filling out some paperwork. He looks up.

"Yeah? Can I help you?"

"Why yes, there is a matter of some importance I must speak to the mayor about, no I dont have an apointment, and yes, it is pressing enough to warrant interupting any meetings he may be in"

There is a short pause.
"I don't get paid enought for this. Door on the left." *points*

You see another man behind a desk, he is in the middle of writing something when you enter. He looks up supprised as you enter.

"I thought I gave orders not to be bothered, well no matter. What busness have you?"

"I am going to make this quick. I am here to offer a setlement. Considering there is an army of battle hardened Kobald mercenaries camped outside your town, you would do well to listen to me."

He paused for a moment...

"The simple matter is, this forest is not yours to do with as you please. The hmans in this area made an agreement long ago that they would only take from the forest what they need. You are breaking that agreement and the forest is not taking that to kindly. Neither is that army. You*shudder* clearcut the forest, and build a palisade wall around it that you dont need. You sell the wood of this forest, when it isnt yours to sell. You use large communal farms that you dont need... I have drawn up a plan that would allow you to live here, and not incure the wrath of the forest if you are willing to listen.... However, you will be destroyed if you do not"

"Those kobold raiders? bah! We built that wall because we thought we might need it someday, and they proved us right! As for the mill, why shouldn't we! The farm land and money from the wood will help this town expand."
He glares at you.
"Besides, why would kobolds care about the forest? The only people who would are druids, and a few tree-worshipping crazys aren't going to stop this town, and all the other towns on the border from expanding."

"Those Kobald raiders are well equiped and numerous mercenaries. Your walls will not withstand their assaults when they attack you in force. I have seen them. They are more cunning and powerful than you give them credit for. And if they fail, the forest will not. I wonder how well these walls will withstand seige equipment, or assaults by treants... Or a spell bombardment... How well will you hold when nature itself rises up against you?

The simple matter is, all of these towns, only exist beause the forest lets hem. The timber in this forest is simply not yours to take.

The forest may very well be worth more to you alive than dead anyway... Many a person would like to see prestine wilderness..."

The mayor thinks.
"Allright, IF I believe that these kobolds are more then the common scum that most of their race is. And IF I believe that the forest is something magicly going to rise up and attack us. Which, I don't at this time. What makes you think the kobolds will stop if we stop? And whats your angle, how did you come to be working for them?"

"I cannot necessarily speak for the Kobalds, as they are not under the direct command of the forests druids. However, they are employed by an outsider, allied with them. These are the conditions of the druids...

If, for some reason, the Kobalds attack you after you have met the Druid's requirements, I will offer my services in your defense. If you do not, I will be as subject to their wrath as you are, and will stay only as long as I must in order to get myself, and my friends out.

I you must know, unti last night, I was hunting Kobalds in this forest for bounty. Until I learned from the druids why they are here."

I am a mage of no small skill... I am capable of raining death upon those that would do you harm. My skill with a longbow is also reasonable. If you want proof, I can use a scrying spell come tomorrow."

The towns defneces is mostly millita like guards, carrying swords and wearing studded leather armor.

You see the seers shop, it's a run down old shack. You enter. There is dust everywhere, and the only object in the room is a table with 2 chairs, and a cat curled up and asleep.

While he's doing all this, I'm checking out the Encyclopedias and Atlases and anything else I have in my cart for a history of the Fael. If I can't find anything I'm taking someone from the party with me to find what they have for a library or a bookstore and looking it up there.

You don't find any reference to any such organization. However, in some of the old elvish tounges "fael" means "ally" or "friend".

"Thinking I was the seer? That's a first. Nah, i'm just the result of him messing with "awaken" spells. HEY BOSS! CUSTOMER!"

A middle aged human wearing old grey wizards robes come out of the back. He puts on a dusty pair of glasses and squints at you.

It is either that, or I have to drag the mayor into the forest in order to force him to see the danger he has put himself in."
