So, my 360 went quietly in its sleep the other day...

It's only as good as the fine print on the warranty ie. I suggest you read it.Malfeas wrote:Also, does anyone know if the Bestbuy extended warranty is worth it? If it's covered and if they refuse you when you need it, I'd start making noise.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Re: 360
As long as you've got the thing they gave you when you bought it, you're gold. My receiver was broken in half (literally) a few weeks ago when a grandfather clock fell on it, and smashed my entertainment center (cheap, and brand new clock, so it wasn't a tragic loss). I bought the Best Buy warranty for the receiver, and I got a new one for free. Their warranty pitch, 'no matter how you break it, we'll replace it', absolutely sold me on buying it. It's better to pay that 30$, and be protected for a few years, than to have to worry about shelling out the money for a new console.Malfeas wrote:Sorry to hear about the loss of your 360. But if microsoft wont repair it and you want to replace, I recommend waiting until 1st quarter 2007. As mentioned before, microsoft should be releasing an updated version and I think also reducing the price. Or if you do replace it immediately, you could also look into a watercooling or fan case mod.

Agreed on warranty/protection programs that're that good. I need to think about those, come to think of it, next time I buy a system of any sort... thank you for that, Count Dooku!
And dear geeze -- I've played 360 in stores, but this makes me pass on actually getting one... a "next gen" console should not be as [good/bad] or worse than a current gen! (As I've said before/told others, the worst thing about the PS3 for me is how good it makes the PS2 in comparison, and now the OP's case tells me that the Xbox 360 has in a way sunk towards that too by having a warranty that IIRC is as short as the PS2's.)

Right, so here's the current plan. I intend to call them back up, use my magical reference number to skip all the bullshit I went through already, then get a hold of a supervisor or equivalent as suggested. Then of course mention the bullshit this is, how I could go get a Wii for only a little more than they'll charge me, plus 2 year (as I understand it) warranty.
They might realize the error of their ways, or they might not. If not, then I'll just sell all of it and start over with Nintendo. Kinda sucks cause there's a lot of 360 games I'm looking forward to, but a man's gotta take a stand, am i rite?

Darth Judas, what would you trade in towards?

Ahh, okay. ^_^ Was gonna suggest PS2 itself, but as you have one, good enough. (All the PS2/Xbox 360 shared games helps.)
