There is a way, so to speak. If you REALLY want to roll, instead of using a point distribution method, we can always hop on OpenRPG and use that method.Feil wrote:I really wish there was a way of rolling our characters stats ourselves. Even the staunchest of materialist atheists sometimes would rather bless their dice and whisper a prayer to any kind Gaming Spirits that might happen to be listening.

I think he means he wants to hold the physical dice in his hands. Because one source of random numbers is different to another I guess.
Me, I just get ORPG or similar die-roller to generate a few dozen rolls, and I start at the top and work my way through the character gen system taking the rolls in order. I simply don't care what the values are, and any character can be made entertaining or discarded.

I'll throw together a distribution system that tries to keep parity with dice rolls somehow, but also toss in a way for people to roll without being horribly fucked. Ideally not enough to powergame and lame, but enough to keep things interesting.Stark wrote:I think he means he wants to hold the physical dice in his hands. Just to remind everyone, the classes are as follows:
Adept (Scholar, Know-it All, Keeper of Lost and Forbidden Lore)
Arbiter (Robocop + Judge Dredd with shotguns and big hammers)
Assassin (Agile, deadly, etc.)
Cleric (Generalist, good social skills, like a D&D Bard with more fury)
Guardsman (Weapons Specialist, General Badass)
Imperial Psyker (Mage-Class, Daemon Bait, No, really)
Scum (Rogue, ne'er do well, you get the idea)
Tech-Priest (Mechanic, Techie, Cyborg Monster)

Huzzah, I got my rulebook today! Character concept sent off to you Hotfoot, decided to go for a Guardsmen with the intent of going down the Commander path if my guy makes it that far.

If people really want to, we can do random number generation, or we can do point distribution. This isn't all or nothing. If one person wants dice and the other wants points, that's fine. Points will be more reliable in that you'll have roughly the statistical average of what dice would give you using the standard rules, while dice have the potential of doing better or worse.
Points for distribution will probably be 105, as the average for straight up rolling is 99, and you get one re-roll, that should be roughly equivalent.
Thanks to everyone that's sent me a character concept so far. Anyone who hasn't, please keep them coming. We can always add new characters as the game goes.

That's what I intend to do. It's kind of lame when you make a guardsman with pathetic WS and BS, you know?SylasGaunt wrote:Well he could always do teh appropriate number of rolls and let the players stick the results in the stats they want them in.

If the game is going to be on public display, someone had better engage in some heretical sex to make it the plot that much more interesting. Shocked family and co-workers, becoming a target for the people you once worked with.
I suppose it would be illegal under distribution laws to pdf rules to peplz?

Your Inquisitor will be from the main rulebook and a former Arbiter.
Your handler, who you will have more direct contact with during the early parts of the game, will be an Imperial Guardsman.

A few quick rules questions. I tried looking for official stuff, but since the game is rather new it probably hasn't been raised yet and there certainly isn't a official FAQ or Errata over at Black Industries, so I figure the best place to raise it is with the GM of this game. Both are a bit mechanical, one definitely moreso than others, but I figure if I have questions others might.
The first has to do with Two-Weapon Wielding. Yeah, yeah, call me a munchkin or power gamer, I want it for later because it's iconic to the setting. Specifically the whole pistol in one hand, sword in the other hand deal. Now, looking over the rules, it seems that to do this you need Two-Weapon Wielding, but there are two types and they seem to be used for if you attack with two weapons of the same type at the same time, so do I need to get both versions, or just one to do the whole sword and pistol thing?
The second question has to relate to the combination of Righteous Fury and the Tearing weapon property present on chainweapons, and the Hot-Shot Charge for lasweapons. According to the damage rules, if you roll a 10 for damage on any die, you make another attack and if you hit you roll for more damage, and if that's a 10 you roll again and so on, basic exploding dice sort of thing. Now, both the Tearing ability and Hotshots allow you to roll 2 dice and take the higher result. Will this ability transfer over to these bonus dice? Because when rolling two dice like that, you have a 1/5 chance instead of a 1/10 chance of rolling a 10, and the damage could very quickly explode into truly obscene numbers, which is perhaps fitting with the fluff of some of these weapons. Obviously the GM could decide the first time this would happen (with the probabilities the way they are the situation would come up pretty quick once someone got a chainsword), but I just figured raising the issue now could save for abjucation headaches later.

Would someone with the rulebooks set up a "Scum" type character for me? I'm not picky.
"The 4th Earl of Hereford led the fight on the bridge, but he and his men were caught in the arrow fire. Then one of de Harclay's pikemen, concealed beneath the bridge, thrust upwards between the planks and skewered the Earl of Hereford through the anus, twisting the head of the iron pike into his intestines. His dying screams turned the advance into a panic."'

Sword and pistol requires both the close combat and ranged versions of the talent. Otherwise, it's just matched sets (two CC, two pistols, etc.)
As for the exploding dice, I would rule that if you have the good fortune to get a hit that good on a one-shot hotshot charge, awesome, go for it, it explodes mightily. Same with the chainsword probably, but I'll have to double check.
Neither are issues the group has to worry about now, of course.

You should probably try and get in touch with Hotfoot for that (incidentally I sent Hotfoot a message inquiring about AIM), but looking over things if you just randomly generate and take the basic quick start stuff presented, you still need to make two choices:
Do you want Charm or Dodge as starting skills? And do you want Ambidextrous or Unremarkable as starting talents? These both help define your character, in that if you were to say take Dodge and Ambidextrous then you would be more along the lines of a sort of quick, dirty fighter, while Charm and Unremarkable would make you quite good at social aspects, able to slip in and out of situations relying on your quick wit and sharp tongue as weapons and your anonymity as your defence.
And cool Hotfoot, those both sound like reasonable rulings. The chainsword seems most likely to get the double dice thing as the rule says that whenever you roll a die you roll two, and as I said, the rule will pop up enough that asking now will save a minute or two later of flipping through books in the middle of combat when (at 1/5 probability it will come up) something like that happens. I figure keeping the GM happy and informed can only benefit us.
