Look, you know how many vehicles and infantry there are going to be in the mission; and what they're gonna be armed with.
It's even funnier when you realize they tried to implement a "roll to exist" function in the mission editor so you can set the "possibility" of a unit's existence. But it's useless because you still know what you put there and everything else about it if it does decide to show up. :)
Best care anywhere.

Yeah, but what you don't know is when that attack helicopter is going to smash into a mountain or a tree on the mountain and never show up, or when that infantryman with the AT weapon kills the armor raping them early off or gets killed before he can get off a shot.

This happens a lot in my game. Sure, you know every unit, where it is, and what's it got, but if your mission is going to last hours, cover many kilometers, and use lots of soldiers, there's a lot of accidents that could happen along the way. Truck full of infantry has an accident and thus a platoon of tanks rolls into a hostile town with no infantry support because they had to walk. Platoon of tanks decides that it knows where it's going better than you, goes six kilometers away from where it's supposed to be going and gets ganked. Transport chopper drifts a little too far to the right on it's route and offends a Shilka or smacks into a mountain and thus that unit never shows up when you radio for reinforcements.

Of course, if your missions are tiny and centered on a single town there's not MUCH that can go wrong...
