Re: Borderlands
I wonder if they'll add an option to treat high-level characters as host-level for purposes of damage; that'd make coop way more interesting without taking away loot superiority or skills.

Re: Borderlands
Ya know, outside of the general FPS bad design decisions (No mic controls? They should have known better...)
and consolitus, (which while prevelant on the PC, isn't bad to the point of rendering the UI unusable...)
a lot of the fumbles I can reasonably chalk up to it being their first effort at this type of game.
The only other Dev I can say that about was Level 5 with Dark Cloud, and Dark Cloud 2 was a vastly better game.
Though, a lot of the interviews have to be taken with a grain of salt, they seem to -want- to make the game better and give the fans what they want. The question becomes, will they fix/expand the base game without nickle and diming us, will we only get major patches with DLC releases, or will they just cut and run onto a sequel/next project?

Re: Borderlands
While I'd love to see that happen, I have pretty much zero faith in the DLC Phenomenon. They not only have to patch out the bugs (deleted your items when you left coop, oops) but change the way coop and levelling behaves and vastly increase the content (and variety of content) to really 'fix' the game. What's there isn't bad (and as a shooter I think it's quite successful) it's just not enough and bland. If only they'd left in their 'stupid quest perl script' there'd be something to do in the game.
Re: Borderlands
Co-op permits some truely broken hero skill combinations. Also Hunter's 100% ignore shields skill is completely overpowered.

Re: Borderlands
I rented it and I like it to a moderate degree. What I don't like are the boss are dungeon crawls and their random respawns, I might like it more if I could actually find someone to co-op with, I don't like the paranoia caused by said random respawns where if I back track I'll never know who might be coming up behind me, but everyone I know is a good ten levels higher at minimum and the tediousness of the game would only be exacerbated by gaming with people I don't know.

Re: Borderlands
Can you co-op on the same console or is a Live account required?
This looks like a fun and interesting game but I'd like to be able to play with my wife without shelling out for another console.

Yes, it has splitscreen co-op.

Excellent. Thank you.Vendetta wrote:Yes, it has splitscreen co-op.

Re: Borderlands
Do note that unlike some other games, you can't split-screen AND go on Live (2 on one box and 2 more on Live, for instance). Also, the ingame menus are not resized to the smaller windows, so you have to use the right stick to pan around them a bit. It's fiddly, but you get used to it. It's also only 'side-by-side'.
Re: Borderlands
Damn. We've always had problems getting used to "side by side", I'll likely give it a rental to see anyways. Thanks for that.

Re: Borderlands
If you have a 4:3 TV, it goes 'over and under', which is much more comfortable for me. Maybe you can set your 360 to 4:3 to trick it? 'Side-by-side' feels very cramped due to the lack of peripheral vision.
Re: Borderlands
I don't see the option anywhere on the 360 (I have a widescreen monitor for it) but I'll hunt a bit more when I rent it. Dragon Age coming out tomorrow will consume most of my time for a while.
I'm going to write this down though so I don't forget.

Re: Borderlands
I think (fuzzy memory here) that if you use the old component leads you can choose, but HDMI is automatic. They may have changed that in an update in the past year; I haven't used anything but HDMI in some time.
Re: Borderlands
I remember before the game came out there was some talk that it was going to have a lot of procedurally generated content in the form of overworld maps and caves and whatnot. This led me to expect that things would be different every time I went to an area. I assume this ended up not happening or is it just late game areas that work like that?

Re: Borderlands
No, that was pretty much a total lie.
Re: Borderlands
Bah! That's kind of disappointing. Oh well, I'm having a great time and it doesn't seem like I'll be getting bored with it anytime soon.Losonti Tokash wrote:No, that was pretty much a total lie.

Elaborate please? I'm honestly curious as I haven't seen or tried a Hunter class myself.Xon wrote:Also Hunter's 100% ignore shields skill is completely overpowered.
Re: Borderlands
The end talent of the sniper tree allows the hunter to bypass shields a certain percentage of the time. With five points in it he bypasses shields 100% of the time.doan_m wrote:Elaborate please? However, this is not actually as overpowered as advertised, because as you go into subsequent playthroughs, enemy health scales far higher than shields, so ignoring the shields is less of a benefit, and since DOT proc weapons become more frequent and more significant in the grand scheme of things, and the DOTs don't ignore shields, you get into a situation where you get a good hit in on an enemy, knock off 75% of his health, and the fire damage that should finish him off just drains shields which are irrelevant to you anyway.
Against the Vault Guardians, yes, the skill is hilariously broken. Against everything else, the Gunslinger tree is more powerful.

Heh, my boyfriend's playing it. Ran into a unique Rak by the name of Nishu. After dying, Rak-Nishu dropped 'A Cracked Sash'. Hooray for homages.

Re: Borderlands
I've been keeping track of my loot.
Sadly due to a cross-country move, I haven't progressed past level 25 yet.
