You know how people with Asperger's often like collecting things? I think that's why my backlog is so large.

Re: Your gaming backlog
I have a backlog if only because I don't know what to play or replay next. But some games tend to disappear off shelves eventually, and I'm the sort that likes to buy a game off the shelf. Call it old fashioned if you like. I can't be bothered writing a list though.
Re: Your gaming backlog
^That too. Unlike movies or music, older games tend to vanish off the face of the earth with extreme ease. Guess that as current gamers get older and more nostalgic, there'll be more re-releases.

Re: Your gaming backlog
Will probably never finish
FEAR
Borderlands
Everything else I own I've finished.
Infinite replay list
Gears of War 2:Horde
Halo Combat Evolved
Fallout 3 (PC)
Planning to play eventually
Gears of War 2: Multiplayer
I'm pretty picky when it comes to buying games, and I tend to get endless value out of the ones I do buy.

Re: Your gaming backlog
I have indeed wasted money on some of the games on my list, when I could've born them cheaper for later - the majority of them I didn't buy new, but some I did, and it was damn foolish when I had other games to play. In any event, I've learned my lesson, hence why I've stopped buying games for the next few months until I've gone through my backlog to my satisfaction.
I'm pretty sure I missed some games, anyway.

Re: Your gaming backlog
Does it count if you never intend to play the game again? I tried Dragon Age out, was bored to tears, and I'll give it to Ken tonight and never see it again. It's not on the 'need to finish' list.

Re: Your gaming backlog
Probably not. My list of games I got bored of and returned or sold with no intent of playing again is too long. I can't even remember most of them.Stark wrote:Does it count if you never intend to play the game again? Funny, I just finished DA:O Awakening, days after I started playing it. I finished DA:O twiceStark wrote:Does it count if you never intend to play the game again? (DA:A is fucking buggy though, I lost four hours on an inexcusable bug that saw me inventory get wiped by one of those incredibly tedious "take all your inventory" contrivances that never work right)

Re: Your gaming backlog
Even Borderlands has scripting errors like that. It's pretty sad, since it's 2010 and all.
Re: Your gaming backlog
The original was a hilarious bugfest as well, of course. I've played through it recently, one quest I had to reload and restart four times because either a cutscene didn't play, or the cutscene did play but the boss hadn't spawned in it, so I was left locked in a room waiting for a boss who never showed up.Vympel wrote: (DA:A is fucking buggy though, I lost four hours on an inexcusable bug that saw me inventory get wiped by one of those incredibly tedious "take all your inventory" contrivances that never work right)
Not to mention the number of times where trying to talk to someone after a fight plays the intro cutscene to the fight again, occasionally breaking the game such that it is impossible to proceed.
I got a similar thing right at the start of Awakening, where some Darkspawn were supposed to smash through a door so you can get to them, except they didn't, they smashed the barricade behind the door, but the door itself remained closed.
Oh well, it'll keep me amused until Resonance of Fate comes out here on Friday.
Re: Your gaming backlog
Lawdy, the only way I managed to finish one particularly tough fight during the main questing in DA was because it wouldn't let you open this plot sensitive door until the fight was over, but I could detect enemies on the other side, and for some reason when I zoomed out it showed the other side clear as day. So I cast blizzard / earthquake / tempest with the three mages I had on hand until they all died. They couldn't get through the door, although if you stood too close they could attack. Through the closed door.
A scientist once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the Earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the centre of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy.
At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: 'What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise.
The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, 'What is the tortoise standing on?'
'You're very clever, young man, very clever,' said the old lady. 'But it's turtles all the way down.'

Re: Your gaming backlog
And it's not like these bugs are rare or constrained to certain sequences either. Of course, it seems to be beneath Bioware's notice to actually try and fix the scripting engine, or any of the other myriad of bugs and problems with Dragon Age, which makes me really wonder how they're going to manage a proper MMO with The Old Republic.
Re: Your gaming backlog
Funny, I was surprised by how stable and bug-free DA:O was. I never crashed to desktop once, and didn't notice a single scripting error the entire time. This is what made Awakening's myriad shitty obvious bugs so damn frustrating.

Re: Your gaming backlog
Same here, I never ran into any serious problems on DA:O (PC version). I've had a couple of crash issues with Awakening and I was really pissed when I loaded in my character from Origins and found out I can't keep any of his gear from the Shale or Warden's Keep DLC. Running into a battle naked except for a helmet and ring is not a good plan. According to the game forums this was a "design decision," but if so it was a stupid one; I paid money for Warden's Keep DLC, I should get my toys.Vympel wrote:Funny, I was surprised by how stable and bug-free DA:O was. Re: Your gaming backlog
There are ways to get around that. When I took my character over to Awakening, I'd stripped them down and put them in the Juggernaut armour, then when the changeover happened, the dlc stuff was in my inventory and not stripped off.

Re: Your gaming backlog
That's even more retarded. I mean if they wanted to strip out the other DLC content for some kind of half assed compatibility issue that's fine, but if it only disappears if it was equipped that's just nonsensical. Seriously, it's absolutely brainbreaking to try and think of some reason why they might make that design choice.
Re: Your gaming backlog
Hey, that's what rental is great for, I wish I could rent PC games I just want to play through once, or those I want to try out properly before deciding to buy, but noooooo, I have to make do with crappy demos, asinine reviews that are payed-for or for laughs (and that's not an xor), or simply barge into a friend's house, pry the game box from their hands and run off into the night.Stark wrote:Does it count if you never intend to play the game again? And yes, I've regretted buying games, I have two of those little boxes of regret on my desk right now, and I wonder who can I con into accepting them as birthday gifts.

Re: Your gaming backlog
One of the many reasons I've 90% converted over to console gaming; my longest list is probably "games I rented and then decided sucked so I didn't finish or buy them".

Re: Your gaming backlog
Bioshock 2 (I should actually get to the ending but meh)
UFO: Aftermatch (they really asinely lengthen the gameplay with the final bit)
Dark Messiah (just reinstalled it, somehow it manages to work fine, doubt I'll actually finish it again)
As for Metro 2033: the gameplay mechanics are sucky. The actual combat has dodgy collision detection and the stealth sucks balls. You have to hear the pseudo-Russian voices again and there is no quicksave, no hint as to where you should actually go and get killed in the shootout in moments.

Dude the stealth is awesome. Running frontline with throwing knives and a bb gun is hilarious. By bad do you mean 'based on the three lights on your watch'?
