Well, that would be nice. A couple people telling the King about their character and offering words of advice. Then I'll post the next update, advice in hand. Along, hopefully, with the County of Mide.

Re: Let's Play the Megacampaign
My main piece of advice would be a rapid conquering of Mide by as many forces as we can gather. Lets crush them under our boot-heel as quickly as we possible can... My liege...
The running of the country can be left to the other people you gather, but for now expanding our borders is key.

That is the plan. Just as soon as one or two more people are kind enough to post who they are, we start our plan to conquer Mide and establish a second Ducal title.

Well, err... my lord, I'm just some guy from the year 2011 AD. I was loading up a game of Medieval II when that asshole Q dropped me here. Not that you would have any idea what Medieval II is.
Anyway, I would recommend we see if we can't take Mide, and maybe get on good terms with the English. I'd rather we not get wiped off the map by them. Come to think of it, we might want to get on the good side of as many major powers as we can. Always good to have some big friends to beat up our rivals. And make sure we play nice with the Pope, excommunication is the last thing we need.
By the way, there's this thing called gunpowder...

Entirely OOC, we don't get guns until... probably not long before we would have anyway. Unless we get a huge-ass empire and rush land tech in EU3.
So... we have a general plucked from the bridge of his attack starship in the twenty-second century and a random gamer. Good enough for me. I'll get to work on that update. It will end with us getting that second ducal title.

THE MEGACAMPAIGN: CRUSADER KINGS: DEUS VULT
Chapter the First: Late December, 1066 to New Year's Day, 1070
It has been said by those who came to be known as the Immortals that in the original history, Ireland was never a power to be reckoned with, or even a nation on its own, except as a tiny state existing only because the English didn't care enough to hold on to it. It has also been said there was no clear reason why they were sent to Ireland, to change the course of history so greatly.
Never the less, the new history of Ireland undoubtedly makes for a better read.
After the arrival of the first two Immortals, what was then the Duchy of Leinster set into motion a plan to tke over the neighboring County of Mide, to claim the title of Duke of Meath, the first step on a long road to King of Ireland, and eventually, the Irish Empire of today.
By February of 1067, the Duke had all he needed. He forged a claim to the title of Count of Mide, and marched his army off to war.
In the middle of May, the old Chancellor died, and was replaced with the slightly more competent (OOC, skill 10) Fionghualla ui Aedhagan.
By the middle of January, 1068, the seige of Mide finally ended. The Duke was willing to allow the Count to keep his county, and would even give up his claim to it, if the Count agreed to become a vassal of the Duke. The Count agreed.
Now it was simply a waiting and political game until enough money had been acquired to make the appropriate preperations for assuming the title of Duke of Meath. Not much happened until early April, 1069, when the Count of Ulaid asked to become the Duke's vassal. Obviously, his request was granted.
In December of that same year, the old Duke died, and his son the Count of Dublin became Duke... and had enough money, coupled with the late Duke's funds, to create the title. For some odd reason, in late December King Erik of Sweden, of all people, decided to ally with the Duchy. Strange, but useful. On New Year's Day, the new Duke ascended to the position of Duke of Leinster and Meath. Long live the king-to-be!
And on that note, insert your favorite variety of evil laughter here!

My liege, I am Admiral Dimitri Kursk, formerly (before that bastard John de Lancie dragged me back here) naval commander of the Order of the Void. Since I am cut off from my own time, I pledge my allegiance and service to you, so that we may advance Ireland to the pinnacle of world power. Then, when the time is right we may resume our cleansing of the stars...
But that is something you would not understand your grace. Suffice to say, I believe I can help you.

Admiral Kursk, it is a pleasure to meet you... Though I do have to ask when you are from. A cleansing of the stars is in the future, but I do wonder from which side you are coming from. I think we can both agree that to discover we were once enemies would be something we need to put aside...
Anyway, my liege, I would consider crushing the state to the south of Sligo would be our next step. If we split the country, then we only have to mop up the north before pushing south.
Also, the united provinces to the south should be the focus of our diplomatic efforts. We don't want them to decide we look like an inviting target while we work on taking the rest of Ireland.

Re: Let's Play the Megacampaign
We may actually want to take the north first- we could get another ducal title out of it. We'd only need to take one more of the two counties up there. And I agree, we should befriend the southern Duke. That way, we can have him peacefully join the Kingdom of Ireland, when it is born.
And entirely OOC, now we have two space conquerors? Good, good... We may actually shortly be at the point of being unconquerable by England. I mean, look at it this way. First they have to leave a good chunk of their army behind to prevent anyone from trying anything. Then they have to pay for whatever army they are bringung's crossig of the Irish Sea, which is expensive. Then they have to be able to pay for the army's upkeep. With all that, they may actually go bankrupt before they can win a war with us, and be forced to call it off if we'll just give them some cash so they don't actually wind up incapable of dealing with a rebellion. Not to mention we'll soon have enough forces to actually chop up an English invasion...
And still not as the king, yes, I simply need to choose in which game we shall go from the Irish Empire on Earth to the Irish Star Empire. I'm thinking... Space Empires 5, maybe? Or SotS, perhaps. Choices, choices...

Re: Let's Play the Megacampaign
General Montgomery, I cannot tell you precisely when I am from, being unfamiliar with this archaic dating system. I can tell you I am from a far distant time, when humanity was besieged on all sides, and had no choice but to persue a genocidal war against our implaceable enemies...
In the short form, I can say that we fought for the same cause General. Humanity, human civilisation. Now, for some reason we have been summoned to this place and time. The human race here is primitive and barbaric. For the sake of all that we believe in, we must subjugate all opponents so we may bring about true civilisation.
Then, only then, we can be better prepared for the enemies we both fought.
Anyway, my liege, I agree that we should strike north. Adding another Duchy will greatly advance our cause.
OOC: Yes, it is I, Dimitri Kursk, from doomie's GalCiv 2 LP. I'm playing fast and loose with the events of that, but I'm keeping the character and the motivations because he's such a fun character to play: the committed warrior who truly believes that what he does is justified.

I thought the squarish shields were ducal lands, and that would be east, no?
Either way, I want to take the north before we go south, so I'm happy either way.
And Admiral Kursk, at the very least it is good to meet someone from a similar time. I cannot tell you how hard it has been to get similar ideas across, when these people don't know what a fire-arm is, let alone powered armour or star-ships...

Re: Let's Play the Megacampaign
Greetings my new liege, I am Colonel Tzarin, former commander of the 75th Cappellan regiment. While your troops are a little more primitive then what I'm used to commanding, but they say war never changes so I think I can still offer usful miltiary advice, at least more usful to groupd troops then those navy lads and the civillian anyway.
I concur with the assesment to pick off the isolated individual terratories to the north, and if the map is correct, there's a single unaligned terratory just on the tip of wales too, which might serve as a spring board, United Kingdom of Ireland and Wales anyone?

This odyssey, this, exodus. Do we journey toward the promised land, or into the valley of the kings? Three decades ago I envisioned a new future for our species, and now that we are on the brink of realizing my dream, I feel only solitude, and regret. Has my entire life's work been a fool's crusade? Have I led my people into this desert, only to die?

Who are you calling a navy lad. I'm a general in every meaning of the word, and I out rank you sonny-jim. A little respect would be in order I think.

Navy lad or otherwise, I too outrank you Colonel. As attractive as gaining a foothold in Wales would be, we need to secure our power base here in Ireland first.

Touchy, touchy, fine I'll stow the inter service rivalry, and my suggestion of Wales was for the future, just pointing out the oppertunity thats there after all.

For future reference... I would agree with you. Wales is close enough for a good landing. But it would be far future, when we have some mainland holdings as well.OmegaChief wrote:Touchy, touchy, fine I'll stow the inter service rivalry, and my suggestion of Wales was for the future, just pointing out the oppertunity thats there after all.

Re: Let's Play the Megacampaign
OOC, to clarify: Some titles in this game do not exist unless someone makes them. The Duchy of Ulster is the three territories up north, and it won't exist until we can grab at least two of those territories, at which point we'll have a strong enough claim to create the title. Same thing we did with Mide- there were two territories in that duchy, and Dublin was one. You need 66% of a title's territories under your control to create or usurp the title. Usurping is the same thing as grabbing, but it takes a lot less prestiege to do, and creating costs gold but gives an equal amount of prestiege.

I can have one up in an hour at most, if you want.
EDIT: And I probably will have another up today. This week I'll be updating very fast, since I'm going on vacation for a couple weeks starting Friday.

Excellent. And Colonel Tzarin, I feel I should apologise for being quite so dismissive. Your ideas have much merit, and using Wales as a springboard could be very effective in future. I look forwards to working with you and General Montgomery to lead this ragged nation to glory!

OOC, he's damning me for being unable to update for a couple weeks starting Friday. Vacation out west. It'll be nice to see Vancouver- haven't been there since I was six months old.
EDIT: Damn, beat me to it! So yeah, expect at least two updates a day until Friday. Then you get one update in the morning and I'm gone. I'll still be able to post, I just won't be able to update.

Re: Let's Play the Megacampaign
Ah well, we'll see how much chaos we can wreak in a week or so.
Baltar: "I don't want to miss a moment of the last Battlestar's destruction!"
Centurion: "Sir, I really think you should look at the other Battlestar."
Baltar: "What are you babbling about other...it's impossible!"
Centurion: "No. It is a Battlestar."
Corrax Entry 7:17: So you walk eternally through the shadow realms, standing against evil where all others falter. May your thirst for retribution never quench, may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again.
