Wasn't the SPECIAL system was apparently loosely based on D&D (though some of the number ranges were different). Hell, IIRC, some of TSR's former employees were among the Fallout development staff (which is not indicative of anything in and of itself admittedly). I thought I'd read an article discussing borrowed/inspirational elements from the D&D system that were used for Fallout.Vympel wrote:It was planned to use the GURPS system, however the negotiations failed or something and so we have the glorious SPECIAL system. All skills, stats, and perks. Ah the glory.
BTW, did anyone else besides me ever replay Fallout 1 making sure everything happened in the same order and manner as described in the background section of the Fallout 2 Manual? Well, I still took care to make sure that Dogmeat didn't die in the military base, which was a serious pain in the ass.
Speaking of which, if Dogmeat dies in the base in FO1 yet reappears in the Cafe of Broken Dreams and Pariah Dog can be killed yet reappears if you come across the battlefield again, are they aspects of some larger force or concept? Dog is just God spelled backwards. Oooooh, deep!
