Eh, I wouldn't say Warcraft's story is terrible, but it's certainly not as good as Starcraft.

Minor spoilers for the first 3 or 4 levels of the Night Elf Frozen Throne campaign follow.

...

Ok, insofar as I've played (the aforementioned 3 or 4 night elf levels), Frozen Throne's story bites ass. Illidan is one of the worst villians ever- what the hell is his motivation? Why does he want to take over the world? It's not explained. And what the hell did he do in the first place? That's not mentioned either (I don't think).

And what is the Warden's motivation (forgot her name)? She gets all pissy and righteous about him, but it's not like he did anything to her. The characters are just completely unreal and artificial, at least, so far.

And does anyone else think that the voice acting is a notch lower than the original?

And can anyone recommend some really good single-player/custom campaign maps?

Oh, yeah, and what the hell happened to the other human kingdoms during Warcraft 3? Was Alterac ever resettled? Were Gilneas or Stromgarde destroyed? What about Azeroth? The manual makes reference to it being a prosperous country once more under the "visionary leadership" of a new king, but it's never mentioned in War3. Did it survive the Scourge intact, or what?

EDIT: About the maps, I swung by Warcraft.org and got a few, but the people of Infoceptor appear to be about as intellectually endowed as a small furry rodent (and, judging by the map comments, they appear to have an unhealthy obsession with other people's cocks).

You find these things out in World of Warcraft. But needless to say, only the northern kingsdoms of Lordearon and Dalaran felt the wrath of the demonic hordes; they left for kalimdor very shortly after they arrived. They had bigger fish to fry.

SPOILER ****************************************************

Alterac and Stormgarde have both been lost, thanks in part to rampaging ogres and rampant corruption. While Alterac is in shambles, however, Stormgarde has only been recently lost, and there is still the possibility of its recovery. Gilneas, as far as we know, is pretty well off; their crusaders are really giving both the scourge and, in time, even alliance nations, real problems, zealously hunting down all those who do not support their cause. Kul Teras's fate is, as yet, unknown, but their "third fleet" was known to be destroyed. What else beyond that is unknown. Presently, I don't even think it's a region they plan on adding.

1) he's quite possibly insane due to hundreds of years of isolitary confinement.
2) He's pissed off at is brother for banishing him, despite the fact that he kicked in that dread lord (Tichondrius?) and hadn't really done anything wrong.
3) He's part deamon and that may contribute to the whole insane thing.
And what is the Warden's motivation (forgot her name)? She gets all pissy and righteous about him, but it's not like he did anything to her. The characters are just completely unreal and artificial, at least, so far.
He was her prisoner for hundreds of years, then that high priestesss comes along and kills a lot of her fellow wardens and releases Illidan.
Illidan was entrusted to her care and he escaped on her watch, so she's probably pissed.
And since Illidan is now an outcast again she's got a justified reason for hunting him down.

No, apart from the Orc campaign.

Eh, I still don't think they adequately explain Illidan and his pursuer's motivations. After all, "insane and powerhungry" is hardly two-dimensional, and I think they handle the Warden very poorly.

I have to agree with an earlier poster, Zeratul kicks Illidan's ass.

That said, wasn't Alterac destroyed by the Alliance in Warcraft 2?

So the only remaining, stable human nations are Azeroth and Gilneas (I would imagine the Kirin Tor are in some disarray)?

And, 2000AD, what is this "orc campaign" you speak of?

The Ork campaign on Frozen Throne.
Rather than do another standard campaign they made into a sort of RPG-RTS
Personally i loved it and played it through (all 3 chapters) twice.
