Thanks to the gracious help of an SDN member, I've been able to procure a copy of the game. The result?
Total pwnage.
I was fighting the gauls for the control of the two cities above my lands (the one with the port, the other one I cinquered on a Senate mission a long time ago)). Its been 40 turns or so, and both me and the Gauls were gathering our armies for one major ass battle. When I gathered mine, I besieged their city. As it was about to fall, they salied out. The rest is history.
Have a very nice day.

How did you not lose more men than that? Your armies were roughly the same size.

Roman legions > Gaul barbarians. Or any barbarians, for that matter.StormtrooperOfDeath wrote:How did you not lose more men than that? Your armies were roughly the same size.
Simply put, if you orchestrate a battle so you can rout multiple units at the same time (usually with some well timed and well positioned cavalry charges into the flanks and rear) or kill their general (also with cavalry, usually) the enemy will rout and flee. You then run them down with cavalry.
I bring at least four units of equites and two units of cavalry auxilia with me in every Army I have, so that very few of the enemy ever gets away.

I have done similar things with Archers and Ballistas. Bobard them from across the map with your Ballistas(I have even picked off their general that way) amd move your achers into position.
BOmbard them sme more, then, when they charge you, place your infantry on fire at will mode.
I didnt lose a single man, and killed every last one of them.

I really need to use baslistas more, but the onagers are so damn fun (just don't put any friends in their line of fire...). I've killed several generals with flaming rocks from onagers.Alyrium Denryle wrote:I have done similar things with Archers and Ballistas. Artillery. Its what's for dinner.
I'm playing again as the Brutii, and this time I actually got to sack Rome. The senate tried to attack one of my armies sieging the city. I drove them off and hurt the defenders in the process (the onagers had tons o' fun). Then one of my family members attack the city, and I was able to quickly take the walls. I encountered some stiff resistance from the Hastiti and cavalry holding the plaza, but I overcame them. Rome is now mine.
This also happened as part of a coordinated assault on the entire Italian penninsula (sp). I just need to secure two cities south of the Aps, and the how place will be mine.

Gauls ain't the only ones getting killed.
At this point in time, I have killed off Gaul and Carthage, and I'm tied with Egypt as the largest faction in the game. However, I am broke, and my navy consists of a whopping 4 ships. So, if I'm to kill off my next potential target, which are either Spain or Greece (probably Greece, because I'm already at war with them, and because I want to get in on all the trade before the Brutii get their greasy hands on it), I got to build some ships. However, to go fighting in Greece, I have to re-build my army to fight the phalanx (from what I gather, such an army has to have a lot of skirmishers to harass the phalanx, a lot of cavalary, and some nice heavy infantry (aka Princeps, at this point). Somehow, I get the feeling, Hastiati ain't gonna cut it.
So, any suggestions as to whom I should kill next?
Have a very nice day.

Had a fantastic battle once in Shogun (with expansion), where a Ronin rebellion started and an army attacked a province of mine which happened to be a bridge map.
Their forces:
4x 200 Yari Ashigaru
2x 50 Yari Cavalry
1x ~70 Warrior Monks
(note the COMPLETE LACK of ranged weapons)
My forces:
1x Maxed out Kensai.
The battle begins. My Kensai strides to the middle of the bridge and screams: "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!" After half an hour of intensive slaughtering he looks like slowing down. But then he gets his second wind. And does some more slaughtering. And then a bit more. And then some more. And the fuckers KEEP COMING.
The game ends with 4 Yari Ashigaru and 2 Warrior Monks running for the hills away from a FUCKING EXHAUSTED Kensai who's left behind a bridge thats WELL over its load weight with the amount of corpses on it.

This Carthagian city revolted against me after I had conquered it and built
those stone walls, requiring me to smash them down....
So once I won, i exterminated the entire populace.
1,000 dead men and horses in that little square
