Very painful, why CS? Why not a good mod - DoD for example?

Though the idea of playing NS on the source engine gives me a warm fuzzy feeling, I have to admit.

I get a similar feeling considering The Specialists on Source.

Also Eternal-Silence which, I like to think, was partially my idea (back when the mod was being made for BF1942).

Why CS? Why not port the most popular online game in eternity? Why not take advantage of the already-established gargantuan fanbase, a huge bulk of which were all but guaranteed to trade up?

Why not reach out and snatch an enormous pile of money, just sitting there to be grabbed?

Jiminy, why o why not? Hmm... why why why not?

Calm down, I'm merely venting my dislike of CS. I get the distinct feeling that there are just as many people who like CS as people who dislike it.
I'd go on to argue about how CS is acutally not that great when you look at it, but what would the point be?

Yes... my point in the earlier post was "why did you port the mod that I dislike, CS, before the mod I enjoy, DoD" - Day of Defeat is not the best mod ever, but I do enjoy it. Shit, I'd rather they did TS or NS, but obviously that won't be the case.

Here you can see me being selfish, and yes, I did buy Silver.

Well, your impression would be wrong, if multiplayer usage statistics are an indication.

I'd rather they don't pick up TS or NS. Now that Valve has CS, there's been no improvements on the gameplay since Valve wants to keep their fans. They're afraid making drastic changes will drive the gamers away; status quote.

The development team of TS is great; they're not afraid to make changes when they know it's for the good of the game, even what a few fans here and there whine and moan about it.

In Valve's case, they'd cave immediately.

That's clear - however, the devs of TS or NS could, as I hear it, without considerable trouble, convert their games to Source, and I do so hope they do. How can I be expected to go back to the crummy old HL engine (hell if I recall its name, isn't it a Q2 derivative?), when I have this glorious new source engine?

If I remember right, Half Life's engine was actually a heavily modified version of the Quake 1 engine.

If it is based on Quake, then I think "heavily" is too weak an adjective.

I dunno about NS, they'll probably do it but they're taking forever just to release a final version 3.0 (they're still at it with those endless betas, right?)

For TS, the creators have voiced that they want to play HL2 first to see what the engine and all's like first. If they like what they see, they'll work on a TS:S.

I know the folks at NS stated that they wouldn't be re-making the game for HL2 after all the work they did. As far as I know NS is still in this long beta phase, but that's not so horrible, when it comes out, it'll be balanced :)
I'm thinking that as long as it's not too painful to convert the mod; they'll do it. NS could make great use of the source engine, I'm sure it'd be a lot easier to impliment some of the stuff that mod uses (flying stuff, buildings, etc.)

As for TS, I really hope they like it, TS is the kind of game that'd really benefit from the modern physics system and ragdoll.

Though I have to wonder, will we see vehicles in the new DoD?

Meh- it doens't look any better from the original is what I mean. Same old boring bullshit. All the fanboys are going to play is Dust. I mean, I can understand the reason, but fuck I'd prefer if that shitty game just went away ...

Maybe I have to see it in action, but I'd have to see some gameplay changes before I ever went near that game again.

Exactly, around half a year to a year after Quake 1 came out, Valve came asking for the source, since Id was allready working on the Quake 2 engine so they gave it away for a basic price.

Valve took it, looked at the Q2 engine, and built the Q1 into Q2, and thats how it came.

Afterwords, adding VAC and all was so much modification its like comparing CoD to Q3.
