Its kickass that he's still alive and kicking. I always loved when he jumped into the Longsword with the Cheif who instantly yanks a pistol...and Johnson just laughs at him.

I take it you refer to the Halo 2 intro. Regardless, I wouldn't be laughing if Master Chief pulled a pistol on me. Johnson's either stupid or quite the badass.Chris OFarrell wrote:Such as?Agent Fisher wrote:Oh yeah he does.SylasGaunt wrote: I'm not talking about Johnson, though sarge does get some great lines in here.

No, I'm talking about 'First Strike'. The novel that covers the flight from HALO of the Chief, Cortana, Johnson, Haverson, Polaski and Locklear.Rogue 9 wrote: I take it you refer to the Halo 2 intro. He's a badass, he is.
God I love that guy. He's cool on so many levels. He kicks ass, loves Rock (AKA Flip), survived HALO, is imune to the Flood and respects the Chief fully for what he is and backs him all the way.

I got my LE copy this morning and I'm about 2/3 the way through it. My thoughts so far.
Texture Pop: This is the only graphical glitch that has caught my eye but it is really irritating. It only happens during cinema scenes but it is very noticable. It is only a credit to Bungie's storytelling abilties that this glitch doesn't ruin the viewing experience altogther.
-Story: excellent work, they've actually made me sympathize with the elites. I love the exchange between The Arbiter and Spec Ops commander before they began their mission at the gas giant. Only thing that bothers me is that the story doesn't tie in the novels much at all.
-The Battle Rifle: Bungie answered my prayers. The Assault rifle pissed me off to no end and the BR is exactly what I was hoping for. Flexible, accurate, with good range and power, the only drawback is that there isn't enough ammo for the damn thing. This gun and the Covenant carbine are my standbys when things get hairy.
-Scorpion- The tank is REALLY slow now. It feels like the UNSC forgot to lubricate the tracks before deploying it. This drawback is offset by the fact that the main gun fires much faster and they fixed the coaxial, the range is much better and it is much more accurate.
-Dual Wielding: I honestly wasn't really that excited about this feature, mainly because it is fairly common in FPS's. But Bungie did a very good job implementing it. They are many situations where you almost have to pick up a second gun.
-Hunters: Almost unfairly hard to kill. Shooting them in the soft flesh doesn't kill them any more. They can actually melee attack enemies behind them. They are a serious threat when they show up in a battle. Plus the fuel rod gun they carry is a contiuous beam now and they tend to use it the less.
-Boss Battles: I'm surprised Bungie added these, but they have been pretty difficult so far. I won't go into details to avoid spoilers but in most cases you face worthy opponents and they require a bit or creativity to take down.
Scale:Bungie packed this game to the brim. There are so many different locations, characters and enemies I really wonder about their health. I think they were really trying to make up for the lack of scope in the last game so they went overboard.

So whats the consensus? Do the Halo fans think it was worth the wait, or just a weapons mod? I think its hilarious that the appalling rifle from Halo isn't in the sequel...
Even though I never read them, I think the decision to not link more strongly to the books has cost the game. I know what happened at Reach vaguely, and it could have been dealt with quickly. The transition from Halo to Halo2 was handled poorly in my opinion. And what happened to the Warthog controls?
All things considered its the best FPS for Xbox, probably on any console at the moment (I have irrational hope for goldeneye2). I think the small MP levels let it down a bit, and they lost an opportunity making the two sets of weapons interestingly different (as the did in Halo with the overheating, etc). I can't shake the feeling that its fun, but not the console Holy Grail its billed as. I certianly wouldn't swap GTA for it.

I could swear there is a dead spartan on board that first ship. In earlier armor, lying dead at the top of a flight of stairs. I could be wrong, but I took a good, hard look at it. The lighting wasn't good though...Natorgator wrote:I'm disappointed that we don't see any other Spartans in the game. What are they doing?

Yeah, I really like what they did with them. In the first game, Hunters were a joke. This time, they're really tough to take down but at least their gun isn't that hard to dodge.Clone Sergeant wrote: -Hunters: Almost unfairly hard to kill. Tightened up as far as I can tell. I'm glad it actually goes where I want now instead of fishtailing into next week every time I make a turn. And what happened to the Warthog controls?
Wait do you mean small as in the smaller levels on multiplayer are a dissapointment or that the levels in multiplayer are small? Because some of them most definitely are not at all small (like say waterworks).I think the small MP levels let it down a bit,
Want to elaborate?and they lost an opportunity making the two sets of weapons interestingly different (as the did in Halo with the overheating, etc).

So far it's been a good romp. The Hunters are a shitload harder on many regards...the range on their HtH attack is pretty nuts, and the orange parts are as exploitable.
I do like that the elites are still in en masse, and the enemy snipers can be a bitch.
The Scorpion is slower, but that gun is so much better.

So far I've been a little disappointed in it. But, like I said at SB, it's probably partially my own fault. I've spent the last year hyping it up so much in my head, that it couldn't be as great as I wanted it to be. I still definately enjoy it, but it doesn't feel quite the same.
I'll get over it though, and begin the long wait for Halo 3.

Multiplayer with the new, enhanced vehicles sure is fun...we spent about 20 minutes trying to knock my jackass roommate out of the sky before we realized you could lock on to vehicles with the rocket launcher.

I don't want to spoil myself too much, but I have one quick question: Are the Grunts still as cute and lovable as they were in the original? ...

They call you "The Demon!" whenever they see you.
Which brings up a minor nitpick I have with the game; why do the Covvies speak English?

Devolution is quite as natural as evolution, and may be just as pleasing, or even a good deal more pleasing, to God. If the average man is made in God's image, then a man such as Beethoven or Aristotle is plainly superior to God, and so God may be jealous of him, and eager to see his superiority perish with his bodily frame.

Can I say Holy Shit?!Microsoft banks $100 Million for Halo 2 game
You say goodbye, and I say Halo
By Nick Farrell: Wednesday 10 November 2004, 06:49
VOLISH VIDEO game Halo 2 hit the shops yesterday and netted more than $100 million on its first day out.
In what punters are calling the largest launch in gaming history, Halo 2 has done better than most movie blockbusters on their first day.
Odd really, because the plot of the game is fairly familar. Boy meets heavy assault weapon, boy must save the earth from aliens, boy never gets a girl in his life.
The boy in this case is called 'Master Chief' which probably means he will have to serve up the aliens in a white wine sauce in sixty seconds to the approval of Lloyd Grossman.
A Volish spokesChief said that more than 1.5 million units were pre-sold and one retailer sold 8,500 units in the first 11 minutes, while another sold 200,000 units by yesterday morning.
Analysts expect Microsoft to flog more than 10 million units of Halo 2 mostly around November. The original Halo sold five million units and remains the best seller on the Xbox. µ

One thing I forgot to mention is that I think the humans really got shortchanged in the vehicle department in this game. I had really been hoping there would be more. The only really new human vehicle is the Gauss Hog. So far I like the tweaks they made to the old ones but they could have at least added a human flying vehicle(on the DVD they show concept art they had for one) and perhaps a troop transport that could compete with the Shadow(the Covie Bus).
Also, on the bonus DVD Bungie claims that for some reason they couldn't get the ATV to fit in their gameplay.
