Chardok's review is really good, and he nailed the best thing about WoW: It's fun just going places. I watched my brother and a teammate of his just explore new territory... delving into higher-leveled places where they had no chance in killing any of the monsters. Did they kill anything? No, but it was tense as hell knowing that, at any moment, Level-?? death could swoop down on them at any moment.

They pressed on, simply because the environments are so great. The Wetlands are beautiful, the mountain passes amazing, the shorelines dotted with Merloc homes... good stuff.

About the only thing that I could think of to improve its looks would be a greater view distance, but that's an all too common thing in games these days.

Guild Wars is going to satisfy my Player vs Player game while WoW for epic persistant world. Unless they really expand the scope of Guild Wars I don't see it being a replacement MMORPG but more of a compliment to them. When WoW is slow hop on to Guild Wars for some instant action type deal.

It's actually reasonable to say "WoW is worse than this other game, thus you shouldn't buy it even though it's a good game." That's a fair criticism. However, since the games are dissimilar, and since WoW has been shown to have qualities that my brother is more likely to care about than mad PvP skillz, it doesn't affect my decision.

Cant Speak to about EQ2 but...

Post by Captain Hornblower »

I have about 50 friends who play MMORPGs, most from EQ,but from other games as well (DAOC, AH, CoH, and SWG). About 40 of these friends pre-ordered EQ2 (mostly so they could get the J-boots). I never pre-ordered EQ2 because I was in the beta for WoW. As of 12PM, 39 of those 40 have canceled their EQ2 accounts and come over to WoW and absolutely love the game and have no intention of going back over to EQ2, or DAOC or CoH or SWG.

Wait wait wait... are you saying if you pre-ordered eq2 you'd get a free pair of journeymen boots? I spent many an hour camping Drezlna in Najena for a pair, and now these people can just up and "buy" them? I feel that my decision to remain in the World of Warcraft was indeed the right choice.

WHAT?! What the fuck are you talking about? I spent ove3r 12 hours in game camping South Ro to kill the ancient cyclops, THEN I went to find Hasten. What is this nonsense about getting JBoots from Najena?!

Listen friend, in my day we didn't have this Ancient Cyclops character. The Jouryman boots were, for a good long time, a rare drop off this lady named Drezlna in Najena. Back in my day we didn't have crazy moons and cat people and whatever the hell else they've added since I got the hell out of Norrath. Ahh, those were the good old days, before EQ sucked.
But I don't expect most people who play now recall those days, they are too busy getting phawt l3wts and becoming l337.

Camping for a item drop is not something I'd call "fun". Perhaps the biggest fault of EQ...
