Perfect Dark certainly did have a paint ball mode and it was labelled in options section as the gore free setting.

I have to agree with Adrian's point about the plot and 'ignorance is bliss'. I thought the plot was good.

But even as comparatively long ago as 2000 Perfect Dark's story was seen by some critics as pretty trite (even though the rest of PD was highly polished and put together well for the most part). As I said before Rareware were lucky that they already had a screenplay ready for them with GoldenEye. Yet when they penned the story for Perfect Dark it was a borderline convoluted narrative populated by stock sci-fi characters - PD's story still had some good ideas and held the missions together well enough, but it could've been much better.

When you had Half-Life and Deus-Ex around at the same time with far better stories and slightly deeper characters you wonder why "A-list" developers like Rare never had any really decent game writers on their staff (even though they were highly proficient in other areas as a developing team).
