Bugsby, I think you need to explain about this shield draining ray. Me, my fleet's patterned after the Pillar of Autumn. Shields? We don't need no stinking shields! But not everybody is running with meters of armor on their battleships.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

The rifle your infantry use won't make a big difference, an army has so many troops; some will carry around heavy anti-tank weapons, other will carry around long range anti-infantry weapons, still otheres will use medium/short range automatic weapons. I would submit that, in the long run, what rifle used wouldn't make much of a difference; as long as your not using the crappy star trek rifles, because they just plain suck.

ST, Never...
No Trekie gear here. I prefer to try and base my stuff off existing military hardware, allowing of course for the advancement of however many years. (We're on year 2900 or thereabouts right?)
As for anti-tank I figured single man or crew served self guided missles would work. I didn't see anyone having a problem with that. However the OICWs each come with 20mm grenades lauchers attached.

Jesus Christ, and I'm running on assault rifles and a secret SPARTAN program... Wait, did I just say that?

In terms of the shield drainer, the idea is that it is a focused wave of EMP energy. EMP is usually created as a side-effect of a nuclear explosion or something big like that. The idea is that this is a way to contain the reaction taht would cause the EMP and focus it. When it encounters shields, this would in theory overload the power-grid that supplies the shields. This would be a very short-range weapon. It would still have limited use against unshielded ships by short-circuiting systems at the point of impact, but it is best used to short shields.
The theory behind the countermeasure is that it would help adjust shield energy wavelengths to dampen the effects of the electromagnetic waves that are doing the harm in the first place.
That is the theory behind my the new technology. It does convey a nice advantage, but it seems to me to be well within the technological norms of the time: besides, I am selling countermeasures. If anyone has any REAL problems with this, post and I will consider adjusting the technology.

I'm aware of that. I live in an area of the U.S where's it normal for the Government to buy and destory some crops to keep the price up. If it didn't the farmers union or some corp would.
I didn't think however it would be able to support a population that grown what? 3 times or so more than current day population levels? But I guess you have factor in improvements in farming tech.
Not that Ousters would be worried about such things, would they?

I think that it's conceivable that Earth could support many times the number of people it has on it today, and that's just with modern day technology. With STGOD science, and arcologies, and genetic super crops, I could see worlds supporting populations up to a hundred billion if not more.
And no, we don't really get worried about planets. At best, they are useful mining sources, at worst, home to annoying obstacles to proper propogation of Ouster life.

Hell I am using spellcasting duelists for the most part. Melee weapons!!!! Greatswords and maces and flails oh my!!! Granted each one of them can cast a selection of spells that will make enemy troops wet their armored exoskeleton... but still...Dude, my soldiers use electtromagnetic coil-guns to fire hundreds of hypervelocity explosive flechettes a minute, while wearing light power-armor. Something as modest as an OICW with an attached grenade launcher is nothing to worry about.
But are they able to position their bodies to dodge a hail of small meteors, or lighting bolts? You got nothing on my secret Grammaton Clerics, bitch! Gun Kata pwns.
I know they are good with swords... But so are my infantry.

Not if I help them bitch slap you. Besides, your government is just as likely to attack me, if not more. I've had nothing but good relations with the ousters, while you threatened to go to war over an uncolonized system.lazerus wrote:Can I get a little help here!?

And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks
Actually, my governemnt is no threat from here on out, as it will take all of our resourses to pacify the ringworld system.

You see, that's why I only took a minor three world system. You get all the resources, but there's only a small indinginous population to resist you.lazerus wrote:Actually, my governemnt is no threat from here on out, as it will take all of our resourses to pacify the ringworld system.
You can fill the system with settelers and miners at your leisure.

Nice try, tex. Rampant powergaming will get you nowhere.
Edit your post. You are facing a combined missile and fighter attack from a force which vastly outnumbers and outguns you. Sorry, Ol' chap.
Oh- and you don't have any destroyers. I've read your OOB, it contains a variety of frigates and corvettes, of course, but no DDs.

Fine, frigits, whatever.
And unless you have some REALLY REALLY god-like spy network on this planet (which you don't), you can't have known the local of every one of my millitary bases, so I still have a decent amount of fighters.
It's not godmoding.
