Lena nodded breifly at the inquisitor, and shot him a brief smile.

"Commissar," said Jolan, "take whatever you need and prepare your men. The disposition of this place can wait. Chaos needs to be purged." The Inquisitor grabbed three power swords, bolt pistols, and plasma pistols. A boltgun, several laspistols, and ammo was added to it. Gix prowled through the arsenal with a discerning eye. The attraction to just browse through a trove or archaotech was too tempting to pass up.

And again, events move very quickly. Nathan makes the claim... preposterous, but with a perfectly straight face... that he remembers the time before the Traitor Legions, and invites him to join his retinue. The anti-geron treatments can keep a human alive well beyond the normal lifespan, but ten millennia? If true, just how old are all of these inquisitors?

Then the xenos make its foul presence known, and he has to restrain himself from opening fire at the sound of Cait's voice.

Immediately after that, Gix orders him to head out and assume command of his troops.

He stands there, loaded down with weapons and armor and charged plasma pistol in hand, eyes flicking from Nathan, to Gix, to Cait, unsure of what to say or do.

Kruger noticed Prius' indecision. "Do what you want to." He said kindly. He paused. "Unless it involves shooting the Eldar; It'd just gets him angry."

Everyone heard a click and buzz through their vox units. "Can everyone hear me? This is Pater Novum, I will be coordinating you today. The troop transports are ready and waiting."

Cait dismounts the ceiling, rebounds off a weapon's rack, summersaults, and flips through the doorway.

Kruger sighed. "On second thoughts, *I'll* shoot him." He smiled to show that he was joking.

"Novum here. It seems like full-scale engagement between Cultist and security forces has begun. Something's cutting through the secfor like wildfire. You better get there quickly."

"Understood." Kruger's team got onboard a transport.

And now a third inquisitor is telling him something he's never heard in his life... 'do what you want to.'

How un... un-Imperial.

He looks at Nathan. "If it would not displease you, Lord Inquisitor... the Boreans will need my guidance in the coming battle. Could we speak on this matter after the battle?"

Even as he speaks, he watches Cait bound through the door and beyond with undisguised contempt.

Gix rejoined his agents. "Toys for everyone," he said with a smile. "Where's Hethor?"

"Making sure there are enough heavy weapons out there to blow any of those mechanical men to scrap metal if it so much as shows a finger," replied Severa. She looked at the gear that Gix handed her. It was new and unadorned. There was a reasuring ethic pure functionality about them.

"Here," said Gix and he held an exotic looking harness. "Let me give you a hand. This goes on like so-" Severa submitted to the attentions of the Inquisitor. "Power sword, it goes on when you flick the switch. The plasma and bolters you should be able to fig-"

"Where's the blade?"

Jolan smiled. "It will be there when you turn it on." The Inquisitor rearmed himself with another powersword, his force rod, a plasma pistol, and a bolt pistol. "Let's move out. The situation here is under control. Will sort through it and heads will roll in due course. We have some heretics to crush. And Hethor will want these new toys."

Pater was correct in saying that the security forces needed backup; If they messed around much longer, there wouldn't *be* any security forces.

Also I didn't scatter any weapons when I bounced off the weapon's rack, that would be ungraceful. Besides in proper Harliquin mode, I had no mass when I rebounded off the rack.

A curt "Acknowledged," from Adivan crackled ove rthe vox network, and he ehaded out. A short while later, he was aboard a transport, heading for the battleground. Calming himself, he reached out with his mind, seeking to discern something of what the future might hold...

The future held a lot of blood. The blurry figure bounced off the wall and drove a humming blade into another trooper's chest while throwing a knife into the XO's throat. A fireteam of Chaotic Guard, wearing cloaks that seemed to change colour depending on the light source, surrounded the LZ.

At Nathan's nod, Prius bolted for the door, somewhat encumbered by his load of weapons and armor.

Making his way outside, he trotted to the Borean regimental CP, slowing down enough to catch his breath before entering.

A commissar must always take care in his appearance and delivery. The men will take their cues from these factors.

"Commissar Ristani," the colonel said, rising from his seat. "It is good to see that you have recovered from your..."

"Colonel Savon, by the authority vested in me by the Officio Commissariat and the Most Holy Inquisition," adding that last part was one of the perks of his new employment "I hereby remove you from command of the 323rd Borean Rifles, for reasons of cowardice and dereliction of duty in the face of the enemy."

The colonel paled. "But..."

"You are under arrest, Savon," Prius said savagely, denying the officer the dignity of his title. "You will be formally charged and tried at the conclusion of this campaign. Frankly, if you had any shred of decency and courage within you, you would save the Guard the trouble of a trial by handling the matter yourself." Turning to the guards at the entrance of the tent. "Place this piece of garbage under arrest. Lieutenant colonel Bakker!" he turned to the regimental XO. "I am assuming command of the Rifles effective immediately. Make a notation of this."

"At once, Lord Commissar," Bakker replied.

"Additionally, Captain Orrin of Echo company is removed from command, pending formal charges of cowardice and dereliction. Now, we have a war against the archenemy to prosecute." He tapped the control on his helmet. "Novum, this is Ristani, commanding the Rifles. Where do you need us?"

"Ristani, this is Novum. Deploy your troops in sector 53. Expect heavy resistance, appearently from professionally-trained units."

The assassain deflected a burst of Lasfire onto another trooper with it's power sword and snapped a neck with a kick...

A second before impact, Adivan realised that his dropship was going to be hit by a rocket.

"Rifles acknowledge. For the Emperor, over and out."

Prius tapped his helmet, looking at Bakker. "Get the men mounted and moving, sector five-three, heavy resistance from archenemy regular forces. In the name of the Emperor, let's move."

He stepped out of the tent as the officers scattered to issue commands. No questions, no dubiousness, no uncertainty, just the pure cleansing power of taking the almighty hammer of the Emperor to the enemy. This is what he lived for.

"Michaelson! With me," he ordered brusquely, passing the new-model lasrifle on to his bodyguard.

Perhaps death would resolve all his questions and leave him cleansed of possible taint...

Adivan's eyes snapped open. He had seen a glimpse of what awaited at the landing zone, and it wasn't pretty. As the transport approached, he pulled a pair of Blind grenades from his bandoliers and motioned to the Stormtrooper squad he was sharing the transport with to do the same.

"When the ramp goes down, throw down. Don't disembark until they detonate. We need to cover our arrival and get away from the ramp."

The other troopers nodded; if there was resistance at the landing zone, it was a sensible precaution.

When the transport arriv, Adivan's orders were carried out to the letter. The ramp slammed down, followed half a second later by a rain of Blind grenades, and the landing zone was engulfed in thick, black, obscuring fog.

Adivan was the first out of the transport, sprinting down the ramp with a plasma pistol in each hand. Even his power armour' auto-senses could not penetrate the smoke, but that didn't matter; his plasma pistols spat blazing energy bolts and the foe with hideous accuracy, guided by their wielder's foresight. The Stormtroopers followed more cautiously, not wanting to fall in the smoke, and began efficiently pouring hellgun fire towards the last known locations of the Chaos Guard.

Before he died the Chaos Guard with the RPG blew the transport up, showering Adivan and his troopers in flaming shrapnel.

The assassain heard the explosion and looked up from removing his dagger from the prone body of a trooper. He quickly melted into the shadows.

And the Guard fired back with vicious, telling effect, hammering lasfire and hurling grenades into the landing zone. Only the blinding effect of the smoke kept them from pouring in more accurate fire, but open ground was tantamount to death in this place.

Hethor adjusted scanner visor attached to the plasma gun he carried. The inquisitor had brought a bunch of new toys, ones worthy of an Adeptus Astartes if Gix was right, which was most of the time. The troop carriers were aloft, looking for a place near the combat zone to put down without exposing them to direct fire. The gunships had proceeded them, moving in to attack the enemy. The navy boys looked nervous. Good. If they failed him they wouldn't live to regret it.

He leaped out before the Valkyries' had stopped and hit the ground running. Las bolts flickered around him. Morons, he thought as he fired a burst from the hip and continued running. The Valkyries shredded everything in the general direction of the incoming shots.

"Faster! No lagging!" Prius barked out at the chimaera driver. "They need our support!"

The Boreans were pouring through the shattered streets of the upper hive flat out in a barrelling convoy, moving to support the troops already engaged. Behind them another chimaera fell out of line as its machine spirit, overtaxed by the commissar's relentless insistance on speed, gave out and failed in a whir of crashing gears. Smoke poured from the engine compartment as the crew bailed out, watching the rest of the convoy divert around them.

Valkyrie suppressive fire shredded the Twisted Path squad's counterattack, shredding through their ranks like a scythe. The survivors pulled back, this merely being the first layer of their twisted defensive scheme...

Hethor lead the security troopers into the fighting. Gix and Severa were behind them, acting as support. A few las bolts flickered near him, but only one struck, flashing into oblivion around him. A burst from his plasma gun incinerated two Chaos troopers. The gun hummed as it began its recharge cycle. He followed up with a lobbed grenade and a pair of burst from his bolt pistol. Naval securty pumped shotgun rounds into the vicinity, supressing the enemy, as he closed to finish them with his bolt pistol.

Severa lopped behind her troopers. D'eckor seemed drunk on the power of the new equipment and even more aggressive than ever. She supported the advance with plasma volleys and well placed bolter shots. The opposition had good cover and was well equipped. She evaluated their advance and the probability of getting ambushed and came to a conclusion. This plan sucked. "Valkyrie units, move in to support Imperial advance. Beware of concealed anti-vehicle weapons." Time to show the Guard what the Navy could do.

Several chimaera's had dropped out of line by the time the Rifles reached the vicinity of the combat zone, essentially costing them half a company's worth of combat power before the battle had even begun.

But time, time, never ask for time... the Rifles dismounted, the support units set up their mortars and began taking fire missions as the infantry spread out and moved toward the battle.

Gix distantly heard Severa ordered the Valkyrie assault transports into battle alongside the Vulture gunships. "D'eckor, this is Gix. We're pushing too fast and hard. Slow it down."

Jolan extended his psychic senses. While an unskilled telepath, he was sensitive to the disturbances generated by Chaos Sorcery. He had no desire to see a legendary Firestorm of Tzeentch first hand.
