Yes. A lot of stuff takes forever to die. And so far, you can't destroy weapons off vehicles, despite that feature being both in the table top game, and Relic's previous game upon whose engine this one was built. It's not really a complaint, just something I noticed.Stark wrote:Oh dear, so it's still a hp grindfest? Shame. Then again remember the DoW beta? Force commander destroys entire base and takes 10% damage while under constant fir from six squads.

Re: DoW2 Beta
I must disagree with this "hp grindfest" notion. For all the things wrong with DoW2, the nitty gritty combat mechanics really aren't one of them.
Yeah, if you level up your dude to level 10 (impossible in most games, as they're too short) and then give him Terminator armor, he's gonna have a shitload of HP. But then that's the toughest motherfucker in the game, and he still goes down. I tested this last night, in fact, played a 1v2 vs two of my friends. A Terminator FC cannot solo a Carnifex in hand-to-hand, and died pretty quickly all things considered.
For all my complaints with DoW2, it does have some WiC-like aspects: if you're a moron and insist on zerging the same ineffectual attacks against an enemy who's adapted to it, yeah you aren't going to do shit. Terminator FC is no exception, if you try to sling shit at him that isn't Biggest Fucking Antitank Weapon You've Got (it's Terminator armor, after all), you're just gonna dent his paintjob while he tears you a new asshole with his power fist. If you do set up something designed to take down, say, a Terminator, then it generally works.

I personally would have preferred if the game tended more towards WiC than towards CoH. But they'd have to revamp the costs of the units considerably for that to happen.

Re: DoW2 Beta
If stuff is taking forever to die, you're doing something wrong. Only a small number of units in the game can take a long time to die: Carnifex, both Terminators, Terminator FC, and Avatar are pretty much it (and maybe a squad of nobs). Everything else can be smashed with the right kind of units and use of them.defanatic wrote:Yes. A lot of stuff takes forever to die. Not true. No matter how many times and in how many ways you upgrade his wargear you can still use the flesh hook.defanatic wrote:I like the Lictor general. He's a general, damn it. It seems that once you upgrade your lictor, you can't use flesh hooks anymore (ever), and depending on the upgrade won't attack. A little buggy in that respect.

And, uh, check me on this, but isn't the entire point of a plasma gun that it provides heavy-weapons firepower WITHOUT being a crew-served weapon? So why in the name of blue fuck does it require SETUP TIME.

Are we talking plasma gun upgrade for the tac squad or a devastator plasma CANNON squad? Cause I'm pretty sure a plasma tac squad doesn't need setup time.White Haven wrote:And, uh, check me on this, but isn't the entire point of a plasma gun that it provides heavy-weapons firepower WITHOUT being a crew-served weapon? If he's talking about the plasma cannon, it is a heavy weapon. Marines still need to brace for firing or whatever.Shinova wrote:Are we talking plasma gun upgrade for the tac squad or a devastator plasma CANNON squad? And as for my alpha lictor, the flesh hooks ability seems greyed out a lot of the time. Maybe I'm misremembering. I'll check later tonight.

Re: DoW2 Beta
It has a cooldown, that could be why. Also it takes some of the Lictor's energy to use. If you use a lot of the other abilities, you might not have enough energy left to do a flesh hook.
PS: You guys have to pull off at least one successful warp throw with the Eldar Warlock. It's like a Jedi Force Push on crack and hilarity.

I'm enjoying the Beta, it definitely does feel like CoH...in...sppppaaaacccee!! I do wish they had made a Chaplain or Librarian one of the leaders for the Space Marines though.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
