I think I was coming at this from the angle of how D3 is making people who haven't really been into gaming since the glory days of D2 or after they left uni declare they want to go back into gaming again for D3's sake.
On the other hand, I don't really hear stories of people who put their old 360 into storage 5 years ago dusting it off to play Skyrim - most people who picked up Skyrim on account of Oblivion have simply been playing other games in the interm. Everyone I know who said something to the effect of "I need a new PC for Skyrim" has been still into games all the while.

AniThyng is merely the name I gave to what became my favourite Baldur's Gate II mage character
I love the shared stash/gold (no more muling with all the possible dangers) and how everyone gets individual loot in co-op (looting was really unfair in D2).
Some things I do miss:
PvP (if only for the lulz)
No more direct trading in game (if only to show of your gear to your friends).
No PvP (yet)

This is actually in the game. I'm not exactly sure how to initiate it, but a friend initiated it to give me an item.
If all you want to do is show an item, you hit Enter to start a chat line, shift+click (it may be alt+click, I can't remember) the item, and a "link" to the item will show in your message. Hit Enter again to complete the message, and whoever you're talking to can then click on it to bring the item window up.

Ah OK, good. Next week some friends will have the game as well so I'd want to poke their eyes out with my (lame) rare items :p
To trade, right click on the portrait of the person you want to trade with, and hit trade. I'm pretty sure that there is a minimum distance you have to be from that person to be able to trade successfully, but it should be fine if you're within a screen of each other.
EDIT-Obviously this means you need to be in the same game together. I'm unsure if there is a way to trade items without joining a game. (Other than the auction house, of course.)
I've not yet have had chance to actually try the game but Diablo 3 seems to borrow alot from the WoW UI (default UI that is, not "use the most popular addons"-UI that seems common in WoW).
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

This is getting somewhat ridiculous now - the game has been out for a little over a week, and I swear to god most of that has been downtime.
EU servers just went down again without any warning.
I wasn't against the whole server idea, needing a connection constantly, but it's getting very annoying - Blizzard as a company should not be this bad with servers, not after god knows how many years of WoW experience they have with operating servers. Honestly this feels like Vanilla WoW did - terrible, unstable, laggy servers.

Hoped to play a few hours after a long days work and it's error 37 all over
Given that I played Titan quest a year or so ago, but have no inclination to replay that game right now, is there any reason for me to get D3? What sets it apart from any more recent looters?
Apparently nobody can see you without a signature.

That's interesting, I saw this and tried logging in, got in without a hitch. If it's error 37 it doesn't necessarily mean the servers are down, a few retries might see you in.
EDIT: Gah, should've checked the timestamp before replying. Even so, given i was actually playing the game at the time, I don't think the servers were down...

The problem never was with the game servers, but the login servers. So, people already logged in can continue playing, but those who are out cannot get in.

Last night, Vympel and I were told the servers will be shutting down in Xmins. When the time came, we each were logged out, but then we clicked 'resume game' and we went back in and played no problems. Literally makes no sense.
It really doesn't make sense sometimes. I got kicked out of my game earlier as the servers went down, and couldn't resume, then the login servers went down. But I logged into SC2 and found half my battle.net friends list still in the game. I just do not get how the servers can be this bad and unstable.

I did got in eventually (logged in on the USA server for a few minutes - it appears only the EU servers are run on hampsters). Server wasn't down, just the AH

That really sucks, because the Americas server has been pretty stable for a good week now. The latency can get bad (>300ms, which I'm sure you're laughing at right now), but I have not had any issues logging in at all.
There is nothing as annoying as kiting and being jerked back into the group of enemies due to server latency.

Everyone likes to bag on Blizzard writers, but I find the lore is pretty compelling. The voice work is good, except for the very annoying Templar follower. The skill build system is pretty innovative, though. You can respec on the fly for free, you just have to endure a short cooldown before any changed out skills are available. In my opinion, if you're a fan of the genre, you will like this game (issues external to the game itself notwithstanding).
I finished the game on normal difficulty with my wizard. The story is ok for an action rpg. But the characters are to dependend on good equipment in D3. It is possible to play a skill point based character with bad equipment in D2. e.g. hammerdins, most sorceress & necro builds, trap assassin & amazons based on elemental skill. This is no longer possible because all skills are based on weapon damage. I tried to beat the game with self found equipment only. It didn't work because 1 hit killed my character in the Izual fight. A quick trip to the auction house nearly double my HP & DPS.
With respect, but wizards get really good loot. A lot of the time. I easily beat the game on normal using self-found items as well. You should be getting a 40+ damage wand easily. And there is always crafting, which on normal just costs you money and produces great results.

I solo-killed Diablo on normal last night with my Witch. Now I'm going for Nightmare or whatever the next difficulty is called.
So how long until Blizzard announces the Addon?
Spoiler
The Black Soulstone visibly survived Diablos death and fell from Heaven. And Tyrael replacing the Archangel of Wisdom while staying mortal. Forshadowing?
"Bring your thousands, I have my axe."
"Bring your cannons, I have my armor."
"Bring your mighty... I am my own champion."
Cue Unit-01 ramming half the Lance of Longinus down Adam's head and a bemused Gendo, "Wrong end, son."

I had a Rare 36.6 Axe and 1600 HP when I fought Izual. I made a demon hunter because I found many item with usefull stats for a demon hunter.
You should hurry up and play nightmare mode, cause playing it with three other people and fighting for your life by the edge of your teeth against a champion mob or a unique + minions, or heaven forbid both at the same time is awesome.

Is it me or are there no gems on the EU action house? (or perhaps I'm doing something badong). No point in asking on the D3 official forums because it's filled to the brim with whiners and crybaby's
