What are you talking about?

Have you ever watched replays of some, perchance GOOD players? I'm not just talking the top players in the world (although they refuse to even touch money maps, and have LARGE variety in their games), I'm talking any somewhat good player. You watch a few against players with different races, you'll see LARGE variety between styles of play, and how the games end up being.

Money maps all have the same basic strategy:

"Build many defenses, build many units, attack-move, watch the carnage. Durrr!"

Non-money maps introudce the VITAL ideas of resource managment, map control, containment, STRATEGY, etc. Would you like me to upload some replays of top-level, good (non-money map) players to prove my point?!

Holy shit, you claim there's VARIETY on money maps?! WTF are you on?!

And Rob, yeah, I know the computer knows the entire map, but I'm past playing computers to measure my skill against :)

*sigh* one day I'll get there, one day.

Though I will say it's not to measure my skills against (I know I'm an average player), but for a quick blast of fun and carnage without '1337' ego's and tantrums, it's enough for me.

Ah,ok.

You will get there if you keep at Starcraft, my friend.

Do you play on Battle.net? I can send you some replays of some VERY high-level players if you feel like it.

I played for a while, but there were too many dickheads sploiling the games, so I moved back to LAN games where I at least knew the people involved, and for free time just played against the computer.

With my current work schedule I never know from day to day when i'll have time free to scheduling a Game over the net is tricky. :(

Still, I enjoy myself, and can handle 4 random computer opponents on Very Fast if I need to, so I reckon I'm about average. Against Humans I tend to team up and handle defensive play while my partner does the attack. Plus some fool introduced me to some execellent new campaigns and that's definitely eating my time and giving me new challenges. Grrr, damn that DP *Shakes fist*.

I dont bother to study replays, thats like player idolizm xD

Like i said, LMML ( low money map levels ) or normal levels i suppose, go as quickly as possible. Its all about rushes, that is retarded.

It is not all about rushes. Rushes are defined as an EXTREMELY early attack, so early that economy is sacrficied. Now, early, non-rush attacks are common, but generally rushes do nto work unless the one rusher is very, very good at micromanagemnt, and his opponent poor.

And eatching replays of good players only makes you better :)

Sorry for the threadnecromancy, but anybody wanna play? I'm stuck on this comp, with nothing but SC and Warcraft 3, which is getting boring. And my friend isn't a match for me, so I need new opponents :P

Well, if anybody bites... I'll be in channel SDN, West.

Yes, not so often these days, but I still play with people on b.net (from another forum) from time to time.

That's dead wrong, rushes don't work in 1:1 unless one player is taking huge risks and gets caught out.

What, so you'd rather keep playing shitty, boring money map games than ever get good enough to have a fun 1:1 on a decent map?

Does anyone know what you'd do against a lurker rush, do you usually try to get a tanks first (he needs a hydralisk den with the upgrade and to get that he needs a spawning pool right?) or get medics with optical flare? and what do you use to detect them, build a missle turret or use the comsat?

Comsat, marines and medics can do it, I think, as long as they don't have more than 2-3 lurkers. Maybe a tank or two as well, and get a turret at your choke.

Turrent at your resource collection and chokes. Use lots of marines and medics, stimpack them.

Or you could try liftoff, retreating, then having tanks go into siege mode.

Hehe, I landed 24 DTs into this guy's base once, and he didn't have a single detector. That was fun :D

IMO, you need tanks fast. Delay them with 'rines+meds (such as attacking the lurks while they're above ground and heading for your base, wait until they burrow, then run). Stim pack is neccessary against ANY zerg unit choice. Both Turrets and Comsat are good, make sure you get both (you need and ebay+acad, anyway).

Oh, and one more thing...

Don't waste your scans! The most irritating thing in Terran vs. Zerg is losing to Lurkers who retreat when they're scanned and rush back 10 seconds later.

Above all, make sure you get tanks.

Note: If all else fails, build a bunker at some chokepoint near your base the lurks have to pass by, load 4 rines, and erect a turret there. This is definately a desperation move, but it may save your ass :)

I suppose you'll have to be prepared for thier attack, and I've heard infantry get slaughtered with lurkers, he could just burrow them right then and there and kill them, only thing I was thinking about was optical flare which permantly (since zerg don't have restoration that the medic does) reduces thier sight and attack range.

What order do you go in here, which unit do you send to scout and depending on what you see, a spawning pool and a den you'd go for tanks then? The strategy I'm using now is have the 9th one build the second supply depot, then the next one build a barracks, then one build another barracks when it's done the SD. Guess you have to keep in sync with your opponent, if you see him with 2 hatcheries and a spawning pool make firebats, etc

Also, what do you do against mutalisks? I find them real annoying because they're so tough, 125 hit points, I find that pure wraiths will get slaughtered if he brings an overlord or two with them since they're detectors

And then of course there's what's called "terran killers" the defilers dark swarm, which prevents the units in it from getting hit with ranged weapons (but not weapons that do splash damage like siege tanks siege mode, only firebats do melee(hand to hand) damage.

Finally how many workers should you have working the fields, at what point does more workers become redundant where it doesn't get you the minerals any faster

I think it's worth it if you can kill that group and sometimes just so it'll temporarily get rid of them, I've done it when he goes after my goliaths with cloaked wraiths
