I'm with Red, gang warfare fucking rocks. I was quite shocked to see how quickly my homies went down though. They didn't survive the first wave.

Check your house, probably the bedroom, if the camera and spray paint can in there are any indication?Joe wrote:OK, I'm stumped. What the fuck am I spraying all this grafitti for? I haven't gotten anything yet.

Yeah i thought tags were like hidden packages so gave you weapons and stuff, buti've got about 15 now and still nothing.
I haven't started collecting horseshoes or oysters yet. The manual hints that horseshoes make you luckier at gambling but i've no idea about oysters.

Bastards!
We have to get all 100 if we want the weapons. That's fucked. Oh well, here we go ...Once you get all 100 tags, four weapons will be available in the
kitchen of your house in Ganton. These weapons are the AK-47, Tec-9, Sawn-Off Shotgun and Molotov Cocktails. You also earn a lot of respect when getting all 100.

Will gang warfare ever stop? I could easily imagine taking over all of Los Santos, but it would be a bitch to fly all the way across the map to deal with a hood attack later in the game.

Yes, it does eventually, at least in Los Santos. Reading through even this thread, people who have gone far enough complain that the gang warfare stopped after awhile, and browsing through various forums I see people asking when it will restart.
Near as I can tell, when you get to San Fierro it stops off.

Of course the Tec-9 is shit. It's a shit weapon for strafing dudes when driving down in your bling-bling laden Cadillac. I'm surprised you could hit a barn door a foot infront of you with that thing.Joe wrote:Aww, fucking lame. The Tec-9 blows chunks and I'm already loaded with AK-47 ammo. Oh well...
Now if they have the SPAS-12 there still...

I'm a little disappointed they've still got the spawning weapons... having to buy them was one of the only things you need money for. Oh well; you never need to buy SMG or AR ammo anyway with gangers everywhere
I've finally ripped off caligulas (and broken the mission by not stealing the chopper, but eh I've got a harrier) and the gang warfare is back... and really easy now my character is so powered up with dual MACs, ninja-style M4, grenades etc. And a gimp suit. But yeah, your gangers take forever to kill a *cop*... so they must be missing a shitload.
I wonder if you can buy a dock anywhere and park your favourite boat there? Those fast boats rock oyster quests.

Where can I find the weapons in Los Santos? All I've managed to find is fricking brass knucles, baseball bat, SMG, pistol, and pump-action shotgun (actually I killed the Pizza guy for that).

After x missions the Ammu-nation stores open (with a very limited stock). The motel near the railway has grenades, to the north in mulholland there's a rifle, and where'd you find the brass knuckles? I'm using a double ended dildo!Vympel wrote:Where can I find the weapons in Los Santos? AKs should be easy to come by, and the SMG was my stock weapon for the start of the game. In SF there's a deagle lying around near zeros shop, and there's a flamer in LS somewhere.
All you really need right now (IMO, I haven't really had a need to snipe yet) is the AK-47 and Hitman level skill.

I need to go get that damn dildo back. It was fun.
So, the AKs. I don't have one. I'm not even sure which Uzi-esque weapon I have. Whatever they gave you on the drive by mission I guess. I think that's where I picked it up.
I keep passing by some other Uzi-typer weapon, but I never pick it up because of the ammo count I have with my current weapon.
So, who carries the AKs normally? Any particular gang in any particular area? I just haven't run across it yet.
And what do the motorcycle cops carry? Can you get what they have by killing them?

Nope. Getting there. Who does that? Big Smoke?Joe wrote:Gang members you have to kill during turf wars have AK-47s. Have you been involved in a turf war yet?
And speaking of him, that fat fuck can't shoot worth a damn during the "Wrong Side of the Tracks" mission. Even if I do stay just off the other tracks so he's not shooting into the train itself.

Yeah, he still can't shoot. You'll just have to keep doing it until he succeeds. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure you have to beat that mission to move on. The Tenpenny missions, too.

Yeah, the few guides I read say you have to do those, the Ryder missions, OG's missions, and that race before Sweet comes back.Joe wrote:Yeah, he still can't shoot. I have no idea why you have to go do the race, other than maybe setting up Cesar for later?
Anyway, if I didn't have what is apparently the bottom barrel lowrider (the default one you got from the first Cesar mission) I'd try the race. Then again, I do have the 10x Nitro on it, so maybe that will help?

The race really isn't that difficult. It's actually better to have a well-handling car than a fast one (though you can't win with the slowest one). Try it with the Voodoo; it may take a couple of tries, but once you get the hang of it it shouldn't be too rough.

Finally got this game myself, and it's great fun. The control problems I had in Vice City were fixed here (you can move more freely when locked, have switchable lock targets, and there's snappier manual aiming). Also a bit nostalgic, too -- I grew up in the L.A. area, and have been at the "real" versions of most of the landmarks in Los Santos. Rockstar clearly did a bit of research. Spent a while just driving around and absorbing the sights (and getting tags sprayed), then got on with my killing and pillaging spree.
I'm not too far in the story (just finished raiding the National Guard depot with Ryder, and haven't touched most of the other story branches yet), but I can answer Stark's question about the brass knuckles -- look in the grass under the bridge that you pass under each time you return to the Grove. It's on the side with a tag location nearby.
At my point in the game, I've been favoring the SMG, though the sawed-off shotgun that you get from tag collecting is also rather useful (it levels fast and has a hell of a wallop when you dual-wield).

Shotguns are an awful choice for turf warfare, I've found. Get too close to a wave of guys and you die in like 2 seconds.

The shotgun is only for 1) battlefields with lots of fences, houses, and obstacles where you can get behind people, and 2) a challenge. CJ+full health+bulletproof vest+AK+hitman skill+wide open field of fire=killing machine. For a while, I was playing like I would in real life, trying to find little alleyways into which I could duck, hiding spaces, walls, cover, that sort of thing. I kept getting killed because close range firearms combat still basically sucks in GTA. So I started standing in the middle of boulevards, right on the yellow line, and firing from the auto-target's maximum range. I can get through all three waves without even picking up a health power up.Joe wrote:Shotguns are an awful choice for turf warfare, I've found. Any city gets what it admires, will pay for, and, ultimately, deserves…We want and deserve tin-can architecture in a tinhorn culture.
