Is it wise to keep all those salvaged materials, or just sell them as they come? Some seem to be quite hard to come by...

Keep that shit, yo. Later on, you will need those common comonents to trade to NPC crafters to make the rares. (For instance a steel ingot takes X iron ingots and charcoal, which is obtainable as a rare drop or by trading planks of wood to the appropriate crafter with some gold) and, incidentally, steel is obtainable only from crafters as well. and not the same crafter as the charcoal! How d'ya like THEM apples?!

I do. but I also run out of room in my storage chest quickly because I'm such a damned packrat. Plus....god this is stupid, you have to share that 12 slot piece of shit footlocker between all your toons. How gay.

Great. Why do these things always happen to me.

Last night I was doing the Fort Ranik mision where you have to use the trebuchets to clear out the char. Half way through the mission, our warrior drops out. So it's just me (a lvl 11 R/W), another lvl 7 ranger named Lagolas of the Wood (the name should have been a big clue about this player), and a lvl 10 Mo/Ele. But that was okay, and we continued the mission.

The first trebuchet had a perfect shot. Cleared out the small camp perfectly.

Then we get to the second trebuchet. Legolas goes up to the lever to use it. The first shot kills a good amount of Char. So me and the monk go to clear up the small groups that are left (well, the monk goes to clean up the last bit of Char. I followed to try to protect her ass since she had the last res sig.). We get there and are expecting Legolas to show up soon. Well, we get into our first fight and WHAM! Turns our Legolas launched a second shot that lands right on top of us. We both die.

So Legolas comes up and, since he didn't have a res signet on him, tries to kill the last of the char himself. He dies in seconds.

So we get transported back to Fort Ranik to try the mission again. The monk logs off to go to sleep. So we need two more players for mission. While waiting to get more players, Legolas asks me if I want to join his clan. I think 'Well, he didn't seem that bad a player during the mission, and I'm sure that trebuchet shot was just a honest mistake. Besides, he has a cape. That means that at some point, he had to have at least 2k just to get that cape. So he has have some experience. Why not?'

I join and open up my guild menu to see how many others are in the clan. Including me and the leader, there are 5 people. Oh, shit.

In the meantime, we had found two more players for the mision. A level 8 W/n and a level 12 Mes/mo.

We start the mission. Half way through, someone runs off alone and aggros a bunch of Char. Can you guess who did it? Yup, it was Legolas. Since he had gotten his own stupid ass killed, the Mes/mo didn't want to waste his one Res sig on him. So I take some pity him and use mine.

Finally, we make to the first trebuchet. Legolas mans it. On the first shot, it kills all but one char. So the Mes/mo goes to kill it. Legolas decides this would be a good time for a second shot. It kills the char, but it also kills the Mesmer. To add insult to injury, since I had already used my res sig on Legolas, the Mesmer had the only res sig left.

So with three party members left, we get to the second trebuchet. Take a wild on who mans it. Legolas. No you don't get a prize for guessing right.

He takes his first shot, and it kills most of the char. Only scattered groups are left. The warrior heads over that way to take them out. I couldn't let him go alone, so I followed to back him up. I thought for sure that Legolas would follow, so I wasn't paying that much attention to the map.

So the warrior and I clear up one group, and start on the second. Just then we see the trebuchet launching a second shot. The warrrior and I run for our lives and just barely get out of the blast zone. The warrior then proceeds to continually insult Legolas for the next two minutes. I didn't say anything myself since the warrior seem to be doing such a good job of it.

We finish the mission and legolas starts asking who wants to do the next one. By that time, I was the only one left in the group, and I sure as hell won't do the next one with him. I reply "It's 2 am. I gotta go to bed." His reply: "alright fggit cya".

So I log in today to do a few more quests, and I was witness to this conversation in guild chat:

Killa Kolin (A fellow officer in this 5 member guild): How do I invite people?
Bobby the Monk (Legolas): Type their name in the Guild menu.

Just to check, I opened the guild menu myself. There were 8 standing invitations to people to join our guild. I got the feeling that Legolas' prefered way of recruiting is to spam everyone around him with guild invites.

If you're running out of space like I am, it might be a good idea to check out a list of collectors and see what sort of components are worth keeping. If nothing the collectors offer looks worthwhile for any particular component, sell or trade the collectors items away.

Latest patch just came out (Emperor, I love GW's streaming system). Increased faction rewards for PvP, updated interface stuff everywhere, more AoE spells function better, and more.

Fort Ranik is pretty harmless. There are far worse missions in GW. Thunderhead Keep is the prime example for the stupid average GW player. Both Fort Ranik & Thunderhead Keep are pretty easy with henchmen.

I did this Fort Ranik mission with a pack of henchman. Was actually easily doable, without dead people...
But is it a good idea to do the mission again? DIdn't make any sense to me at that point :)

Did you do the bonus? Also, you could try farming the area...

Farming?
Farming v. - To go through an area multiple times, killing everything, in the hopes of getting stuff to sell or use.

As opposed to questing where you're trying to do quests, and don't really want to go through a place multiple times.

If you plan your build right and don't get greedy, you should be able to do the first four co-op missions solo, no group, no henchmen.

After you hit the Shiverpeaks, though, all bets are off.

The biggest complaint I have about fellow players is the fact that they build for the quick kill; all their offensive and defensive skills are selected based on mana cost and recharge time versus effect expecting a battle to last no more than twenty seconds. Consequently, most idiots run out of juice before they've killed half of what's arrayed against them. Plan for the two-minute mark PER BATTLE and you'll never die unless your teammates drop out on you.

Here's my pet hates and bad experience.

You're in a group, there's a battle where you get a bit of a beating, maybe some of you are poisoned, others are pretty low on health. So you put in team chat "wait to heal", but no, there's often one tube who decides to run ahead and engage the next massed group, then when he finds that he is going to get slaughtered makes a run for it leaving the battered remnants of the group to get the hell kicked out of them.

Another one is where there's a group of enemies with a healer, it's only sensible to knock out the healer first, but nooooo. you get the idiots that fight the normal fighters and wonder why they can't kill them off.

Yep, I know about that one. There always seems to be one - strangely, only one - who will ruin an otherwise successful group. They tend to be predominantly warriors, which does nothing good for our reputations.

Yep. Having a designated target caller, one of the group's warriors generally, is a good idea. Occasionally, you will come across experienced and skilled players who are very effective with map drawing and target calling, and that can vastly improve your gaming experience.

How have you fared in the arenas might I ask? Also - what attributes have you focused on? I'm strength/swordsmanship/domination myself.

Healing Breeze is a nice mainstay, sure... my favorite Mesmer build tears it apart and makes a paper mache statue of the God-Emperor of Man out of the pieces, though.

I find that often the key to the PvP arenas is to be as unorthodox as possible. There are two main categories of players there: Sheep who use the Build of the Week or whatever looks ub3r1337, and the slightly more intelligent innovators who exploit the sheep by making a counter-build to destroy afore-mentioned Build of the Week. Then that becomes the Build of the Week, and the cycle repeats itself, to my annoyance.

Thus, I side-step the issue and prefer builds that at first glance might seem silly or ineffective, but more often than not they blast through their trial-by-fire with flying colors. To get back on topic, it is for this reason that I tried out a Monk healer/smiter... that heals with Protection Prayers. Not protects with them, mind, but actually heals. I'd combo this with peculiar Smiting Prayers like Zealot's Fire on whoever's getting hit, and all told I was pretty pleased with it, even if it was a pretty volatile build.

I got the feeling that as a Necro/Mesmer at level 8, now 9, the first co-op missions would be tight for me alone. I can survive, I think, but I'd get beaten up pretty severly. THese Charr can be annoyingly resilient.
And I'm still experimenting with my limited amount of skills, though somehow, I ended up having only blood magic spells and then some mesmer ones.
