We can only wait for the horrors are beloved leader will inflict on us. As for the power knife, I'm not worried about that. If I lunge foreward to take him HTH, I am sure one of those nice shiny Men of Iron will interpose himself in a bonecrushingly unmistakable manner.

Told you Pater couldn't resist the Tech. :P He'll be asking the Lord Inquisitor for a higher-tech faceplate soon, mark my words.

*Nnnnnnnnnitpick*
Technically, pious peole in the 40k universe make the sign of the aquila instead of crossing themselves.

Oddly enough, I always imagine the sign of the aquila to be an inverted pentagram.

BTW, Prius' double-standards haven't ceased to amaze me yet. He's an unsanctioned psyker, even if a very low-ability one. As soon as his regiment finds out he'll be taken away in chains. Unless he takes his own life or is recruited by an Inquisitor, of course.

Duly noted on the sign of the aquila... what exactly does making the sign of the aquila entail, anyway?

As for Prius' double standards... Yup, hypocrisy, thy name be fanaticism.

They won't take him away in chains if he goes willingly. Milo got a fairly comfy send off to the black ships.

And then...

The Emperor ATE him. :D

Edit- Also, I think you're referring to Agun Whatizname, the sergeant with the message shell

Milo got to run off with Sabbat to save the Imperium, after all.

IIRC the Aquila is the double-headed eagle.. That's why I said an inverted pentagram; 2 points for the heads, 2 points for the wings and.. erm.. one for the feet. Yeah. Something like that.

Just like the Imperium to add a couple of steps to the basic crossing gesture... by the time you're done, the sniper has already blown your head off.

How I imagine the Sign of the Aquila would work:

Code: Select all

	1/6 4

3 2

		5
Please excuse my crappy formatting skillz.

Edit: Basically, left head, right wing, left wing, right head, legs, left head again.

Edit2: Or vice versa.

Right. It's been a while since I've read any 40K novels and I'm starting by rereading Xenos.

Traitor General. You won't be sorry. It's the first Ghosts novel that I felt matched up with the Eisenhorn trilogy and Ravenor.

Next up for me is the Dawn of War novel, which I don't have much hope for. But I bought it because I get all the 40K novels.

I saw your favorable review, but since I'm doing them in order, it will be a while with all the othe demands on my time.

Y'know, during these lulls where we're waiting for NecronLord to answer somebody's question, I get possessed by the damnedest urge to do something completely off the wall, like have Prius jump up and shout "I can feel the spirit of the Emperor in my pants!"

Remind me why we allow NecronLord to sleep again?

Oh yeah, otherwise he'd kill us all within 24 hours. Never mind.

Ah, so you're still working your way up to the goodness that is Straight Silver and the niftiness of Sabbat Martyr. I envy you.

Read them before, but its been a while. Gaunt's Ghosts books are somewhat predictable, but the ride is entertaining.

Thanks Pcm.

Traitor General actually does twist you a bit at the end. It manages to satisfactorily resolve the plot of the novel while leaving you antsy for the sequel.

I read Guns of Tanith first, then the Eisenhorn trilogy, then Sabbat Martyr, now I've got the lot and am working my way through them in chronological order. Unfortunately, I got sick of it halfway through Honour Guard. I can't afford Ravenor or Traitor General or that-flying-one-whatever-it's-called until they become paperbacks.

Yes, I am not overly burdened with that substance you humans call "cash" at the moment either.

Me either, but I'll sell blood to feed my literary addiction. I'm just on strict rationing right now... a hardcover every two weeks, or a paperback a week, and otherwise drawing from my already present library for re-reading.

Barnes&Noble seems dead-set on helping me out though, because they slashed the 40K section back to nothing, and it looks like they're just sitting on what's left until it sells. It used to cover nearly a whole level of a shelf, and now it's down to less than a quarter, none of it including new releases. Bastards.

Double Eagle was decent, IMO, but like the Ghosts novels it tends not to stick in your head once you've walked away from it for a couple of weeks.

What I'm really waiting for is the sequel to Ravenor.

Haven't read Ravenor yet, but it is on my list of things to get.

My mother likes to get interesting and representative shirts for people in my family. A few that she's gotten for me:

Bilblioholism: (dictionary style definition)

A quote from Erasmus: When I have money, I buy books and maybe food.

Paraphrasing Mark Twain: Outside of a cat, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a cat it is too dark to read.

I want one!

In related news, isn't Pater looking poorly enough to get a response from Jolan Gix?

Pimp, pimp, pimp away
Metaphorically pimpin' my chars every day
