Fuck Ubisoft.

Following the disappointing, but playable (barely) GR:AW for PC, I have recently endured hours of relenting torment as DMoM&M firmly refuses to not be a buggy PoS.

And now, finally I face my final challenge, after a shitful day at work I pick up my long pre-ordered copy of SC:DA (PC) from EB on the way home. I install it, only to find that it DOES NOT RUN. And it WILL NEVER RUN on my system. Because I lack SM3.0 on my card.

Visiting the Ubisoft site, I see that they have stated that they will not EVER release a SM2.0 patch for it.

Now, I find it intriguing that they port the 360 version to PC rather than the apparently much better and more complete XBox version. Especially seeing as how in the past they've ported the much shitter versions across from PS2/Xbox rather than using the nice 360 version. But no, Ubisoft chose this time to make a stand and "release a next-gen game for PC".

And given that its the 360 version which just plain lacks the code for 2.0 or 2.5 most fan patch groups have said there's no chance of that happening.

So, now I have a game that I just cannot play unless I fork over for a new video card (bah - I'm waiting for DX10 cards). So, I guess EB is getting their game back and I'm putting another 90 towards my Wii.

And Ubisoft has REALLY lost me in a horrible way. Short of Ubi classics games I have not bought a Ubi game in the past 12 months that was not a horrific disappointment.

By SC:DA I assume you mean Splinter Cell: Double Agent?

Wait- how does that make sense? The SM3.0 thing, fine, it's their perogative to not support older cards if they don't want to, but ... just why does the original XBox have a superior version of the game than the XBox 360? That's bizarre to me.

Don't you own a 360 anyway? Why don't you get Gears of War? It's supposed to be awesome.

Personally I have yet to buy an XBox 360 game. Too expensive.

My housemate has a 360, so I'll probably play it on that.

From the sounds of the reviews they got so hung up on making SC:DA pretty on 360 that they forgot to put in the full story (apparently including several levels and characters) and left out the entire story-based co-op mode.

Words fail me. I specifically bought the 360 version because it was supposed to have more content than the other versions. This according to the same people who apparently say that they forgot to add in the rest of the game.

What is SM3 and how do I know if I've got it?

Shader Model 3, all cards from the 6xxx line and up in nVidia have it, and from the X1xxx line and up in ATI.

...Huh? I played the PC GRAW demo, and it was a FPS. 360 GRAW is 3rd person.

GRAW should have both viewpoints. The Xbox version certainly does.

Well, the GR:AW PC version was pure FPS and a really badly implemented one at that.

Wait, are we speaking about the Pixel Shader, or is Shader Model something totally different? And how can I tell which one I have? I've a Radeon 9800Pro.

Nevermind, just found out that R9800pro doesnt support SM3.0

Bastards.

Oh well, they won't get MY money then.

SC:DA isn't even very good. Chaos Theory is much better in my opinion.

Chaos Theory

+ Co-op story mode.
+ Interesting versus mode.
- Looks marginally worse.

Apparently the 360 (and PC port of it) version of SC:DA is completely crippled compared to the XBox one, which contains the complete story as well as the story co-op mode.

However after playing through a friends copy of SC:CT earlier this year, I'm going to pick up 2 copies of it from the budget ranges so I can play co-op with my housemate.

Or maybe arrange some co-op with you Neko_Oni?

When playing CT in co-op with my brother, I noticed the last two missions were crippled, too (no voice-overs, the levels both seemed uninspired and rushed). Anyone else had this happen? The levels are purely subjective, but a lack of voice overs...maybe it's just my soundcard?
