Disabling binkplay.exe?

Post by Stormin »

Is it possible to prevent a bink player movie to not run when a game starts? Since the patch today the logo played when I start up my game has gotten far more annoying and the forums have been clamped down and people are being suspended for giving advice on "hacking".
The game runs a file check every time it's loaded so simply deleting or replacing the file will not work.
I run Windows XP.

Dark Age of Camelot.
I now get 5 seconds of EA logo that I can't skip through other than Alt-F4.

It depends. If binkplay is integrated into the game with the use of binkw32.dll (I think) then you likely can't do anything about it if a file check exists. If an external binkplay.exe is run, then perhaps you could attempt to drop in an earlier version (even very old versions tend to be able to play current bink videos) which should support ESC ending of the video. Do this at your own risk.

I personally find it idiotic that game companies would force you to watch the same old intro videos each time, there really is no positive point in it, but then again if anyone would do something that is just a big fuck you to gamers, EA would.

Apparently the administrative staff at the forum mentioned earlier reviewed the EULA and as it stands now, it's not actually against the rules to disable it so instructions were posted again.
Sadly I can't act on them right now because I probably used a cheap surge protector and todays bad weather and power outage seems to have killed my machine
