Will Wii have a demand like the PS3?

Post by Superman »

What do you think? Will they sell out and go in ebay for tons of money too?

Yeah much of the insanity for the PS3 is due to the laughable number of total units available. 360 wasn't like that, Wii won't be like that, because there's more than a million units in the whole world (or whatever tiny volume Sony has). :)

It was, to a lesser degree.

Since there will be a greater number of systems released, I doubt the demand will be as urgent.

If I remember right, Sony gave Taiwan, a nation of 22 million, about 500 PS3s.

If you're a US fan waiting for a PS3, just remember it always could be worse. :P

I do remember a 360 selling for that much, actually.

I wonder if the situation in Taipei would be similar to the one in Fresno, California, this morning. They had to call in the police in order to break up a stampede of prospective buyers, IIRC; I sincerely doubt that it'd be THAT bad in Taiwan, however.

Not unless Nintendo only sells the US 10,000 Wiis.

The local best buy will have upwards of 60 Wiis available at launch. Target I know is getting just as many, if not more. That's just two stores out of more than eight I know of plan on carrying it on launch. I doubt it will be that hard to find.

Last night I saw about 50-75 people lining up outside a Best Buy in Dublin, California. At first I thought i was for the Sony, but it must have been for the Nintendo release. I suppose if you are young with plenty of time on your hands it might be a fun to camp out with a few gaming buddies and talk wait to get your hands on the new system. But all my friends that intend to buy either are waiting.

I'm not too familar with either system but juding from the news exposure it seems that the Ninendo has less interest than the Sony.

I saw Wii's on eBay for about $500-$800. Not nearly as much as the PS3, but still at least twice the system cost. Nintendo had about 4,000,000 units worldwide, while the PS3 had 800,000 units. Because the bulk of everyone who wants one gets one, there isn't a mad rush to sell on eBay, and the next shipment will be relatively soon. Nintendo still sells out and makes a large profit. People who try to sell on eBay may have some luck, but there won't be exorbient prices.

It's not so much less interest. It's more interest, but with more supply too. It was the opposite with Sony. There was less interest in the actual game console, and more interest in capitalizing off it. There was also far less supply, therefore causing chaos at stores.

I do believe the PS3 had 500,000 units availible in North America and Japan, combined. The Wii had, on launch, 2.5 million units, and they're still sold out everywhere I've looked. I did get the chance to play the new Zelda game, and it was pretty awesome.

That was estimates.

Actual totals seem to be that Japan had 80-90K, while U.S did not have more then 250K.

It was supposed to. The real figure might well be closer to 300,000.

Y'know what's just as hard to find as the console itself? Extra controllers!

The GameStop guy warned me he expected a controller shortage so I wisely preordered 3 extra Wiimotes. Everyone on some forums I went to told me that was speculation and heresay and to ignore it.

I laugh in their face while I play four player Wii Sports :D

Nintendo expects to ship 4 million Wiis before Christmas - that's another 1.5 million down the pipe or so.

I made a weak attempt at getting one yesterday and they were all sold out.

They told me they were getting another shipment next week so I wasn't worried. Overall a much less hectic feeling when trying to get a Wii as compared to the PS3.

Go go increased Supply!
