Any way to force windowed mode?

Aside from the obvious shortcut command ~w, ~windowed or whatever of course.
I've got a laptop that's more or less incapable of running anything graphical despite a semi-decent set up (crap on-board graphics brings it down I think). Rediscovering my old games, I've got Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 installed - but would quite like to play it in windowed mode so I can know when my g/f is trying to talk to me on MSN (yes, I could just turn off MSN, but given the choice between gaming and girlfriend...).
RCT2 is non-window mode compatible according to internet digging.
So is there anyway to find some way to make it run in windowed mode? I did a quick google and found things like multiscreen emulators, is there anything wrong with these? Resource intensive etc?
