Recording: Is it supposed to do this?

Post by Superman »

When I record my voice using my mic, my voice is put through the speakers and makes an echo. I can record this way, but it's annoying as hell and sometimes echoes.

So, I went into the sounds and audio devices and checked the mute box. I can record my voice now without that background and speaker noise, but I can't play any media from my pc because it's muted.

Is there any solution to this? I'm using Total Recorder. It's been pretty good so far...

Can I use the 'line in' for media and also record my voice with a mic? something like this?

Simple answer: get headphones.

Not so simple answer: there is a way to keep the sound from coming through the speakers, I just haven't had to worry about it. By default, the sound from my mic doesn't come through the speakers. It's under the sound and volume controls.

Go into Sounds and Audio Devices, then the Audio tab, and under Sound Playback there should be a volume button. Click that for the advanced mixer pane, and you should be able to independently mute mic playback.
