Be more specific. If you want to simply make data discs, then all you need is something like Sonic, Nero, Roxio, etc.

What does a medium-sized, stringed instrument have to do with DVD burning?

You do not need a program to burn data onto a disc. You can simply choose "copy to disc" in explorer.

There are many programs that allow you to do this. Nero Vision and ConvertXtoDVD is what I use.

For CDs this is true. For DVDs you need extra software. Trying to burn a DVD in Windows CD Writing Wizard will just make it prompt you to insert a disc forever.

Don't most DVD writers come with software anyway? Mine came with a copy of Nero.

They should. Though if it's for a machine that simply came with it pre-installed at the start and Windows had to be reformatted then you'd have to get a new piece of software too.

Depends on the computer you get. Mine could burn data DVDs without any extra coders installed when I got it, but I had to get other software for video.

Ah, that's your problem. You're using SONIC. I'm not sure what SONIC stands for, but I think the "S" stands for "shit".
