Hey, for those of you who have Space Empires V, and presumably have it patched, I was wondering what you think of it.
Has the patch addressed all the major stability issues that apparently plagued the game at launch? And in your opinion, besides the 3D graphics, is the game better than Space Empires IV?

Short answers:
No, and no.
Long answers:
For SE:V not to crash, turn on low detail, low textures, use D3D instead of D3DT&L and run it in safe mode. No guarantees. Already one person's quit in our game because of bugs. Not that SE:IV wasn't bug free, but at least it never crashed.
If you don't like SE:IV you won't like SE:V. SE:V AI is atrocious, it's basically play with a clunky
PBW system online, one turn every two days and about a game every half year. SE:V's major improvement is the real-time combat, which removes such stupidity as wormhole camping. SE:V also has a lot more potential for mods, but that's all it is right now, potential, nothing good out yet. It might take years for the quality or quantity of mods to come out for SE:V like SE:IV, and maybe never for total conversion mods because by going 3D they made the learning curve a lot higher.

On the other hand, it does bring a lot of improvements to the table. And someone who liked SE:IV should like it.

SEV vs SEIV
PRO:
Battle system is far improved over SEV.
Diplomacy is the best model I've ever seen in any game.
Purdier.
In-system scanning gives more tactics!
The ability to place objects in precise tactical orbit makes defense more interesting.
More fun mods possible.
CON:
Interface IMO is a step back. More cluttered with less friendly window options in some areas. Better in others though.
Buggy as hell (though SEIV was too when it came out. Give it patches)
Stock balance has some holes. (Some weapons inefficient, supply depot too weak)
Somewhat more complex to mod.
Neutral:
Meh. I'm not sure if the new ship construction is better or not.

I find it kind of a pain in the arse. It was easier single clicking modules into place.
